does anybody know whether the ipod nano has to work to be eligiable for the recall?
iPod nano
I requested box on 11-12 and received about two weeks later. Sent it back on 11-22 and they received it 11-24. Status page says replacement product pending and it is now December 15th and still a no show. Appears 4-6 week timeline in the letter is holding up to be accurate so far.
I ordered my boxes about 2-3 weeks ago and they havent sent me anything yet. Any tips on what i should do?
remain patient....the box for mine came in about 4 weeks. i'm assuming it will take apple at least four weeks to get it back to me as well. apple should have been clear on timing at the start of the process, but it was handled poorly on their end. their priority is clearly to sell new product and not service old.
Same here as we are waiting for the box and as soon as we recieved the email about the recall we sent in our request. Is this a bunch of BS or is Apple going to do something about it? Requested this on November 14th. Still no box nor any response from Apple.
Just received the shipping envelope today (Requested Nov 14). I guess the process is just really, really slow.
Did anyone see this on Engadget?
Looks like some of us will be getting the 6th gen!
I requested mine on Nov 13th and it still says "service reqeusted". My co-worker requested his on Nov 30th and he got his replacement (6G) delivered today. So in 5 weeks I haven't even progressed from Step 1 yet my co-worker who requested his on Nov 30th (two weeks later) already got his replacement.
Is Apple just randomly picking which ones they will service everyday? You would think they would handle it as first in first out.
Apple seems a bit chaotic. I requested service on November 11, received a confirming email on November 12, and received the box on November 15. I boxed and sent the old nano on November 15 and received an email acknowledgement on November 21 (although the box was addressed to a destination thirty miles from my home and was sent fedex express). On December 17, I received an email notifying me that the replacement had been shipped and advising me of the new serial number. Only upon arrival of the boxed nano on December 20 did I learn that the replacement was a sixth generation nano! Interestingly, the shipment seems to have originated in Reno, NV -- first experience of Apple distribution from that city.
I wonder whether the program may be actually administered in an offshore location, explaining the time lags.
I just got mine today and it is a refurnbished nano. I would have preferred to keep my original nano which worked justs fine. If you haven't sent it in, don't!
I can confirm it, I received my 6th generation iPod nano in the mail about a week ago. I'm actually happy that they sent an upgraded version...
Still no box here. Apple's status says the box has shipped, but I've received nothing. My request was made on 11/12/11.
I just got my replacement today and it's a 6th generation iPod Nano. I really like it as my car has an iPod hookup and this one is so small I can store it in the car and no one will ever see it 🙂 I'm glad I returned my old one as it was engraved with my former name so I never used it anyway.

That sure is disappointing, and kind of a kick in the butt by Apple for sending brand new 6th gens to some people yet refurbed 1st gens to others. Personally I liked my click wheel better, but prefer a non-refurb instead.
I was really surprised as I expected to get a 1st generation. I'm guessing they ran out of them. Either that or people were so ticked off that they are sending out the 6th generation ones to make up for the inconvenience.
Same here.......but to my surprise, it was a brand new one, 6th gen!!! And I'm not sure, but I think my original ipod nano was a 4GB, the new one is a 8GB. Sweet!!
