Adding blank pages within a PagesDoc ?

I have made a pages-document of 8 pages ... I want to add a page between pages 5 and 6. In other words, I will create a new page (which will be

page 6 and the former page 6 will become page 7).

I have tried everything to create a page within the document. When I click on the create-page or whatever it is called and click on it, then

the blank page appears way at the end of the document (where I do not want it).

In the thumbnail section to the left side there is a yellow rectangular box which encompasses all of the pages which does not allow me to delete individual pages.

I have tried putting at the end of each page a Space/and/or page Breaker but that has not worked (under the insert tab). Perhaps I am not doing that correctly ?

I am sure there is an easy solution to this because this must be such a common problem.

Please help ! I need to finish a report soon and I need to add some pages within the completed text and to delete a few also. Many many thanks. I need a Mac Angel 🙂 Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the USA but can anyone in the world solve this simple problem for me.

Don - having the images inline is for the exercise in learning how WP documents work. The image will then stay with the text.

Having images and other objects floating makes it possible to have them outside the text layer (outside the margins.

It seems to me you have a lot to learn about WP and PL documents. Use the PL if it works for your project.

When you have time do try to learn more about how WP documents work. The Missing Manual for iWork is a good book to read. There might be other books with exercises. But I don't want to force. Both type of documents have their place.

Thanks Fruhulda, I will try to find The Missing Manual .. I will now expirement with what I think you mean by Inline ... (something to do with the Wrap stuff ??) ...

But yet if I cannot perform the functions I mentioned (deleting an entire page completely and not leaving a blank page and moving one page to another location) then I should not use WP but PL.

I have an old Swedish friend in Helsingborg, in the South .. are you near there? I visited him a few times. He and I were classmates in Banaras, India, in the late 1960s. Nice smoked fish and schnapps and herring in Helsingbord. Skoal !

To make an floating image inline select it and in the Inspector palette > Wrap > Inline

User uploaded file

When it comes to WP docs you have to forget how physicYou add and delete contents like word and objects.

As it happen I live only a 100 km from Helsingborg, which in in the very southern part of Sweden. Tell me if you come to Sweden again and we can have a snaps or two!

Here's why Layout works better than the clunky Word Processing option in Pages. Create one page in Layout and format with a textbox, headers, footers, graphics you want on each page, etc. Then instead of creating this all over again for every page, go to the thumbnails, select the one page (a yellow outline appears around it), and then go to EDIT ->Duplicate. Do this for as many pages as you think you might need for your document text. When you get the number of pages you think you'll need, then you can link the text from one page to the next by selecting the textbox and clicking on the text flow handle which you can then use to click in the next page you want the text to flow to.

Later you can move pages to any order you want in the thumbnails, by again selecting a page (yellow border will appear) and either duplicating it or dragging it to where you want it to go.

Don't think I have ignored the document you sent. I haven't but it is in such a mess I started over from scratch.

Your principal problem (not the only one) is that you have used colored textboxes as the background but you have not made them master objects (totally in the background). The colored boxes still have text wrap set on them and it is pushing text from page to page.

I'm in two minds about supplying you with the template that I have recreated.

I am certain that given your very basic knowledge and lack of dtp ability that you will rapidly mess it up again and I am not confident that you will follow the prodigious amount of instructions that I would need to give.

That, and I hate working in antediluvian measures.

It really needs a major redesign and clean up.

If you feel more comfortable working in Layout, do that. Just remove Wrap from your colored backgrounds. And use shapes for the colored boxes.

Many thanks ReyCarr and for your endorsement of Page Layout ... actually, I don't use the same format or template for every page (each is quite different) but Page Layout I find infinitely easier than Word Processing mode for Pages ... but your idea of duplicating one's prefered format or template and importing it to the next page is brilliant (if I understand you correctly). Best, Don

Hi Peter, Please don't trouble yourself about the doc I sent ... just trash the whole thing.

If I ever use WP (in lieu of Page Layout), then I will spend a month with the book Fruhulda recommended or sign up for a 6 month course. WP is not meant for a mortal like myself, only for Olympians of Pages, like yourself

Thanks again ... Don
