Best camcorders 2,000 to 3,000?

Hello all,
Ok, I have focused my question. What is the best prosumer camera in the 2 to 3 thousand dollar range? One that has XLR ports, cinema mode, and alot of manual controls. Thanks,
Bob

What do you mean by a cinema mode?

Panasonic 100a used is then about the best.

The DVX100A has been replaced by the B model. The A is still a great camera but the B fixes a lot of "user-wants."

It will cost you $3600ish US. They hold their value, so even on eBay you won't find one for much less. DO stay away from the DVX100 noA or B. Go for one of the two newer models.

Great camera and plays nice with FCP too.

A zillion manual controls and you really need to study your DP-isms to get this camera to really speak.

jim is right about the front filter but spend more than ten dollars and get a good UV filter, one that's coated on both sides, other wise the stupid built-in lens shade will flare onto the filter and reflect back into the lens. i had a cheap tiffen filter i threw in the lake because of this. you'll also want a polarizer.

you'll NEED a good microphone, like a sennheiser ME66. jim is also right about sticks. get good sticks! they aren't cheap but if you're looking for cheap, you're in the wrong business/hobby. i have a miller solo dv10 that i just love. cartoni, sachtler, vinten and miller are all great sticks and panheads. gitzo and bogen make good legs but i would never use their panheads for video work. then you'll want a remote zoom/record controller from bepop and while you're getting all that, a matte box is in order.

so now you have all this and a tape you want to edit. you won't want to use your video camera so now you need a vtr. it adds up. good luck and have fun!
