How do I get my volume bar back on iPhone 4?

My volume bar is missing from my iPhone 4 and this seems to be the reason the audio won't work when I try to play music. However, when I play a ringtone the audio is fine. I put my iPhone in the Bose speaker dock and the volume bar comes back, but only temporarily. I've already tried restoring it and it didn't fix the problem. Help?

SOLUTION! (Probably for most cases.)

I experienced the same no volume bar issue. As mentioned a few times in this thread, the iPhone thinks it is docked. This is likely because there is some lint or dirt in the 32 pin connection port at the bottom of the iPhone.

I fixed this issue by using the corner of some paper (only because I had nothing more appropriate) to clean any small bits off dirt out of the port. Then the volume bar re-appearded whilst I was doing this!

Hope this helps.

I had this same problem but it was only 30 minutes after i dropped my phone and a little bit of water probably got into it. and there is a solution for those who dropped their phones the way i did or have that same problem.

all you got to do is leave your iphone on the table with a blowdryer blowing right at its 32 pin connection port and it should start to take effect right away.

then again thats what happened to me and thats how i fixed it. it could just also be because the 32pin connection port was dirty thats all so still try the blowdrying solution.

This has happened to me twice now and its so annoying.

Both time the solution was as described by Petey12.

Hair dryer for 5 to 10 mins straight into the underneath of the phone, this will clear out dust and heat up and loosen the crap inside.

My pnone does get a little damp as im a window cleaner and i guess the damp and the dust must stick on the pins.

SOLVED, HERES THE FIX !!!!!!!!!!!

If you phone doesn't have a volume bar, won't play video or music, and can no longer hear the sound of text typing ...

Simply clean the bottom connector of the iphone.

Get all lint, dust ect. Out of the bottom.

What's happening is the particals in the connector port, makes the phone think that it is docked. On a docking station

The smallest piece of lint can cause this, use good lighting, clean out with a dry toothbrush, and a tooth pic cut in half so you can get both sides of the connector.

Once you do this every thing will start working properly.

This is not a software issue, or water damage issue. You can fix this yourself, good luck!

Let me know if this helps you too.

Hi im a newbie here and i recently bought an iphone from a friend (wahh i know i should have bought it legitly but i wasnt paying that price sorry),

I have a 32 GB Black Iphone 4s and theres a problem.

Yesterday i decided i wanted music on my phone and decided to sync my phone to my itunes and computer..

But lets backtrack first... Earlier in the day i decided to plug a (non iphone heaphone into the headphone port) and much to my ssureprise it worked (all ive ever dealt with is blackberry) unplugged the headphones and a few hours later this is where i synced my phone tried to play music an GASP nothing..in the music app the volume nubs are gray and cannot be moved left or right and no sound is being heard.. also when i tried to check to see if my ringer was going up and down it was displaying the little speaker but not the bar that moves. Read the discussions here and it seemed that we've all been screwed now i love my iphone and all its features only phone ive ever wanted but i would love this to be fixed.

I have tried:

Restting all setting

Hard Reset

Restore

Restore from back

Changing everything imaginable in Setting and nothing has worked

Making a voicenote and i actually got sound and my ringer started to work! YAY right.. WRONG

Cleaning it with nail polish removeer

Brushing it with a brush

Using a paperclip and scraping it

*i did find some fluff but it came out*

After a few futile attempts at trying to play videos and games with sound and getting nothing i have decided its time to put my tail inbetween my legs and hope that someone can help.

Im not sure if was the type of headphones that i used or hat but i need help

PLEASE REPLY I NEED MUSIC

I AM ALSO A YOUTUBER AND FILM OFF MY IPHONE AND I NEED TO HEAR WHAT **** I AM TALKING AT THE END OF A VIDEO

THANK YOU

guys i had the same problem with my iphone 4s a few days ago, whenever i would get a text or phone call it wouldn't make a noise to say i have received one. i also noticed that the noise on the keyboard stopped. after about two hour of turning my phone off, turning it on, turning it off, i finally made the smart decision to clean the ports a little bit. turns out that there was a build up of dirt and grit that was tricking my phone into thinking it was plugged into a docking station. all i did was take a NEW clean tooth brush out of the packet and genitally rubbed it against the ports, it took me about 30 mins before my sound came back all together, it would come back and then go again, be patient, it'll come back soon

My phone had the same problem about 10 minutes ago after I realized it. I went up here and check and luckily thanks to you that I knew there were people with the same problem ( although none of them work for my case except for the "blow to clean dirt" )

In my case, I think that the thing was misplaced lead to the some of the sound (lock sound, keyboard,...) and volume bar disappeared.

For someone who has a phone like mine ( which is dropped for hundreds times), I think that maybe you should try blowing from the charging part (to clean the dirt) , then maybe see if there is any gap between the screen and phone body layer and press them together (to re-locate the thing). I think that's the most basic that I found out since I did not have a single tool with me. It worked and my phone is back to normal now .

My phone is 3GS...

How do I get my volume bar back on iPhone 4?
