Dock won't hide after launching an app from Launchpad

I can get this to happen without Safari open, I don't think it's limited to Safari.

try typing this in terminal

killall Dock

then press the return key

this will restart your dock and will fix the problem, at least for a few more hours.

Bill, I never use Safari, I actually use firefox so I can confirm that this has nothing to do with Safari. The issue started with Lion if I recall correctly or possibly an update in Snow Leopard. Also present on my macbook pro 2010 model and 2011 model.

You were right, the problem wasn't limited to Safari. But I think the dock is behaving normally now, possibly fixed by an update?

Or maybe the stern conversation I had with my MBP.

"Please be a good Mac or I'll leave your lid open when I get undressed"

No definately not fixed. I get this on a daily basis.

Still not fixed as of today. Going to try the terminal quick fix. Wow, feels like OSX is turning into Windows and I love my Apple so.

I haven't had the issue for a long time now (currently using mountain lion OS X 10.8.3).

Same for me, issue gone (OS X 10.8.3).

I just installed 10.8.3 a couple months ago and noticed it several weeks ago.

Oh, I just realized my issue is different. My dock turns off autohide when I simply click on an app in a different space.

I know go to system preferences then dock and un click and then click automatically hide dock DONE

Yeah, no.

That's the problem, that doesn't do it.

Had the same problem Dock would not dissappear when App opened from finder ......

Simple fix....... System preferences > Dock > Tick box automatically show and hide the dock

Problem solved for me
