Dock won't hide after launching an app from Launchpad

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Then go to Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist and delete it along with all other plists with "dock" in them.

Then restart. This will give you the default Dock, so you'll have to reset yours the way you like it)

Same here. OS X 10.7.3. With or without launching an app, when Launchpad disappear, Dock does not hide, randomly. I have to roll over it with cursor or lauch Exposé or show the desktop to force Dock to hide.

Me, too. And it's bad, is annying and needs fixing. This is unacceptable user interface behaviour that a certain someone wouldn't have tolerated.

Yup. I had this problem with Lion and now it persists with Mountain Lion. There were other bugs that were never addressed in Lion. As I stated before (and got flack from some people), it's seems Apple's policy is never to fix certain bugs...they just expect you to update to the newest OS every 6 months or so. So maybe this bug will be fixed in 10.9, who knows. It seems that Apple just flat out ignores some of the bugs in there OS.

Upgraded to Mountain Lion hoping so much this annoying bug would be fixed. It's not. So disappointed 😟

Use the keyboard shortcut for opening the Dock, command+option+d and the Dock will behave properly again.

This doesn't fix the bug. I use this keyboard shortcut all the time to show and hide the dock. This has nothing to do with the fact that when you have the dock set to hide automatically, then you open Launchpad and launch an app, many times the dock never hides. You have to move the cursor over to the dock to "wake it up", then move your cursor away from the dock and then it automatically hides itself. It essentially gets frozen after launching an app from Launchpad. The keyboard shortcut will probably get the dock to hide again, but that defeats the whole purpose of having it set to automatically hide.

The solution is simple. Stop using Launchpad. Using stacks again to quick access my apps.

Updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.1. Nothing new regarding this issue, the dock still hangs visible instead of hiding after launching an app from Launchpad.

This has been present in the last three major versions of MacOS. If you enable a setting, it should stay enabled, however this one doesn't. Needs to be fixed.

I too had this issue, closing Safari caused the dock to auto hide immediately, so maybe its an issue with Safari keeping the dock open.
