How much memeory can this be increased?

It is true it will take 6GB, I've got 6GB installed in my late 2007 7.1 iMac.

the new firmware update enabled it to go from 4GB to 6DB.

I'm running with 4GB and earlyer today I bought 4 gig chip to upgrade to 6GB

I've been researching upgrading the memory in my iMac 2.8 extreme (7,1), and just saw that someone suggested that with Lion these machines can see 8gb. I can't find the link right now, but I think it was on I fixit.com.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether it might work?

OWC still list 6GB.

This may be because your info is wrong, or it may be because they haven't tested 8GB yet.

Only way to find out is ring them (numbers are on the website).

Yes, I just chatted with OWC, and it says 6 is the max. I did definitely read a post somewhere, someone saying Mountain Lion could see 8gb, but I can't find it now.

I'd be wary. Never heard of them and there are some bad reviews from Mac users.

If you're in UK, Crucial may be a better bet, albeit a bit more expensive.

Cheap RAM often turns out to be factory seconds (having failed final quality control) from major manufacturers and rebranded.

Kingston can be OK, too, but not the ValueRam range - stick with the premium ranges.

Hi again. Well, you were right, of course. I went with the Komputerbay module (some of the reviews were positive, and it was much cheaper than the Crucial version), but alas it didn't work (imac kept crashing and rebooting at startup).

I thought it was worth a punt, but it's on its way back, and I'll buy a crucial module with the refund.
