my time capsule stopped working, i unplugged it and when i plug it again, it flashes amber. then the airport utility finds it, because the time csapsule is reporting a problem, when i try to continue, it fails. i want to reset it to see what happens but i'm concerned i will lose my latest backup (time machine)... what do i do?

Reset the TC does not do anything to the hard disk. But you should save the current setup which should be offered to you after you reset. How old is the TC? They do go bad, in which case the files on the hard disk will no longer be accessible unless you get it repaired or have the disk removed. It is good to record any password you have set particularly if you have set a disk password rather than a just using the TC password. When you reset all that is lost.
