ITunes keeps asking me for a password to "Sign in to use this computer for automatic downloads"

None of these suggestions on this forum will work. The Engineers at Apple believe it is coming from cookies that are being deleted. Apple has noticed that when you "Reset Safari" this prompt to sign in to use this computer for Automatic Downloads when opening iTunes will appear. If you DO NOT reset Safari, the prompt wil not come up when opening iTunes. I have reported this again to AppleCare. Everyone who has this problem should report this to AppleCare @ 1-800-275-2273. The more Apple Users reporting this issue, the more the Engineers will see this annoyance.

this doesn't seem right.

sometimes i delete cookies, sometimes i keep them (i don't reset safari, if i have it's very rare, less than once a year) but either way, i'm getting asked to sign in for automatic downloads even though i haven't asked for automatic downloads.

Interesting - I just reset Safari and indeed, iTunes then asked me for my password on restart, twice, but it accepted the password and did not not go into the crash / restart loop that it was doing earlier. When I restarted iTunes a second time, it did not ask for a password.

If you are having more than the occasional annoying popup, okay, but if iTunes is restarting and not accepting your password then crashing when you cancel out of the dialog box and go to the iTunes store and you need to force quit multiple times to get iTunes to stop loading, try deleting the SC Info folder. Worked for me. If you have some sort of script that messes with Safari's cache and deletes cookies you should probably disable that instead.

Well, that worked for less than 24 hours. iTunes is right back to its incessant requests. What a total POS.

Deleting the SC Info Folder does NOT solve this problem.

The reason for me getting these annoying popups seems to be that I had cookies blocked in safari. Once I enabled cookies in safari again, then restarting itunes, I only had to enter my password once and I was not asked again.

So it seems like the apple store inside itunes uses cookies to store auth information. Enable cookies and you are good.

With the latest of version of iTunes now, March of 2012 I kept getting asked to log and my password three times every time I went into iTunes. God it was so incredibly frustrating. I looked on line and checked everywhere to no avail. Then I figured it out. You need to go under the Store button and Sign Out! Once you do that it won't stop and ask you for your password every time you open iTunes. Once you purchase something from iTunes you will need to Sign Out again or it will ask you for the password again every time. I hope this helps others.

OK! for those of you who are having this issue, I have a fix for you!

This is a password confusion issue. Possibly a change of accounts or at first a wrong password was entered and the "remember password in keychains" was checked.
Any who's.........

Go to your Keychain app.
Delete the passwords stored for itunes....all will have to be deleted, no worry, just remember to check "remember password" when you open up iTunes ans enter the correct password the firt time to avoid the same issue.

FYI: This tip works for the same issue with your Mail app. also......

It worked. Also deleted a few other stored passwords for apps that I noticed weren't needed any longer!

I closed iTunes, then I deleted in Keychain Access all entries related to my Apple ID or iTunes Account.

After I restarted my computer, then launched iTunes, entered my iTunes/Apple ID, closed iTunes and since then, when I launch it, no more of these annoying pop-ups.

As I have posted earlier, many of these fixes are temporary. The Engineers suspect the pop up boxes to sign into iTunes to use this computer for automatic downloads is coming from "Remove all website data" checked when we "Restart Safari". This appears to be true for me. I restarted Safari with "Remove all website data" checked, opened iTunes and the pop up boxes reappeared. Throughout the day if I did not restart Safari, The pop up boxes did not reappear all day. The only way Engineers would move on this issue is if all that have pop up boxes report this the AppleCare @ 1-800-275-2273 since the Engineers generally do not read these forums. Good Luck.

You were misguided.It happens, this is a PERMANENT fix, as long as you enter the password correctly after you delete your keychain access file. GoodLuck

There are many of us that are reporting the issue due to "Reseting Safari" with "Remove website data" checked.

Your solution is not a permanent fix for me since I do not have any iTunes passwords in Keychain to delete and reset. This issue is in the hands of the Apple Engineers at this time. It is best that all with this issue report it. If a few report it, Apple does not see it as pressing enough to consider. Good Luck.

to begin with, there are no itunes entries in the keychain app, only one appleid. following your proceedure does not change anything here.

is the OP still around, aindriu?

maybe he/she has gone to get something to eat, this is a long discussion...
