will that reset the ipod??

I am having the same issue...tried that and it says to updated Itunes...but when I connect the the PC it says it can't connect because the Ipod is locked by a PW and I must enter it...WELL I CAN"T because the screen isn't working....HELP
The reset as specified is akin to a forced reboot of a computer. Nothing should be lost.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My screen says connected: Eject before disconnecting.
I am not connected and can't change screen, turn ipod on or off, etc.
Reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the apple boot logo appears.
No data will be lost.
This just happened to me, i did this (above) and now my device is working properly again and no data was lost.
