Problems with iPhone 4s and bluetooth ear piece?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else is having a problem with the bluetooth on their iPhone 4s (5.0.1), specifically when paring with a Plantronics ear piece? Right now this is what is happening with my phone:

I'll be using my bluetooth ear piece with no issue. But if I shut off the ear piece and turn off bluetooth, and then I go to make a phone call with the handset, occasionally I cannot get the call to connect with sound. It appears that the calls are actually connecting, b/c the people on the other end report having received my calls, only without sound. Also, related to this problem, sometimes the handset will get stuck in speaker phone mode, where I can hear the person on the other end, but they cannot hear me--something that always happens after I've been using my ear piece.

In the past, doing a hard reset on the phone has resolved these issues for my phone, however, just now it did not, and I was stuck not being able to make calls at all for over 30 minutes. Even when I reconnected my ear piece, the connection was garbled and then it disconnected altogether.

If anyone else has had this issue, or if you have a solution to the problem, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

I am having similar problems. My Clipart 801 bluetooth headset connects immediately to my new iphone 4S and works for the first call. After that, any new calls cannot be anwered at all, either by heaset or on the iphone or by speaker phone. I have to reboot the phone and start over again. The store I bought the phone from stated Apple is aware of the problem and will probably issue a repair update soon.

Bought the 4S from the Apple store in Southlake, TX on Dec 21. Had the same problems mentioned in this thread with a Plantronics M1100 and the bluetooth in my car.

Once it gets locked into this 'speaker' mode the only thing I can do is off/on or turn the Bluetooth service off/on.

Took it to the Genius Bar yesterday and they blamed the bluetooth devices and told me to go to those manufacturers (Plantronics and BMW) and get them compatible with Bluetooth 4.0. No replacement was offered.

I'm disappointed and angry with Apple. Both these devices worked flawlessly with my 3GS. I'm returning the 4S and moving back my AT&T contract to month-to-month with the old 3GS until I can find a better solution.

Same issue with my JVC car stereo bluetooth, and my Plantronics Backbeat headset.

I've also had a similar issue occasionally using the regular wired iPhone headphones, where I can hear them through the headphones but they can't hear me.

Apple has 500,000+ apps in their app store, but the one called "Phone" doesn't work. Am I missing something, or have they forgotten the primary function of an iPhone?

I am having the same exact problems with iPhone 4s. I did not own an iPhone 4.

I own a plantronics 510 and a Plantronics Voyager Pro HD (top of the line). Both have exactly the same disconnecting issues everyone is experiencing here. Also, audio is a bit muffled. When out of range, then brought back in range, bluetooth does not reconnect and I have to go to the bluetooth menu manually to reconnect. Turning bluetooth on and off does NOT help.

This issue DOES NOT OCCUR with iPhone 3GS with 5.0.1 (same system)

I sincerely hope Apple addresses this issue and quickly. It is illegal to drive here without headset.
