The charge does not say anything about being a 'authorization requests on your online statement' all i know is the €1.98 was taken from my account for nothing.

I check my purchase history like u said, here it is

Hiya all,

My story:

After my 2 wk break, I checked my financial accounts to see what changes happened - as a routine check that I normally do once a week. I noticed that my credit card showed that since 14 Jul till 27 Jul, 21 transactions took place for a total of 850 euro (~1050 USD) and were from APPLE ITUNES STORE EUR LUXEMBOUR LU . Most were 39.99 euro and mostly twice a day. With 2 exception charges less than 39.99. No invoice was sent for those transactions.

No clue what happened here. I'm the sole user of this CC. I don't respond to email request to validate anything by clicking on a link, nor write down my CC number in full anywhere on my Mac, or click on ad links (I got a very specific taste/wants and none of the ads excite me so I ignore them). Same goes for in-app purchases: I ignore them on my iPad and iPhone. In that 2 wk period I was soaking up sun in France and Spain and resisted my urge to be online. I do hand the card over and watch what the receiver does with it. Over here the CC's contain a chip, so one needs to enter PIN and no longer are required to sign. So far no strange devices/add-ons seen. Been using this CC since 2000 without suspicious charges. The only suspicious amounts are those spend on Mac hardware and OSX updates. 😁 cos in this Windows world that's not really common. I think somewhere my CC number is used to create an iTunes account. I'll find out.

Meanwhile, I've cancelled my credit card and removed its details from my iTunes account, and am validating that none of my CC details are on record w/ online shops. My acct is life since end of 2008 and I've approximately spend 100 euro through some 30 purchases, till recently. Will need to contact the Fraud dept of my CC on Mon and see what they advise. I'll inform Apple about this.

Will keep you posted.

Update of 30 Jul 2012:

1. Within 35 min after reporting the strange transactions to iTunes Support, I received a polite response indicating the transactions were made by another iTunes account using my credit card, and they've closed that account and blocked my CC number for future use. The entire disputed amount will be returned to my account as fast as the financial system will allow. Mail also contained some suggestions on what to do in case of ID theft. And contained a suggestion to file a fraud investigation request with my CC issuer. There was no info given about the other account or what has been purchased. They will not do so unless supoenaed.

2. Contacted CC company and updating them on what has been agreed by Apple (return of funds), and they'll await the funds to arrive. So far my request to them to launch fraud investigation did not start any investigation. The representative of the Fraud dept did not appear very open to finding out what happened. I replied that without knowing what to do different, I'll likely to get into the same situation. I think I must have overlooked something despite knowing how not to fall for various methods of phishing. I even eyeball the card when I hand it over to the sales clerk.

So far so good. I'm quite surprised about the swift and positive response from Apple. Yet, I'm not sure how the CC number got in the wrong hands. Will update again, when the balances have been updated.

Update 10 Aug 2012:
Apple has credited me for all unauthorised CC charges, and did so within 10 biz days as indicated. The reversed charges bear the date of reporting this (30 Jul), but didn't show up on the CC overview till 10 Aug.

However I'll will not use CC in iTunes/App store any longer, and limit CC use elsewhere as well despite the relative ease of getting unauthorised payment(s) corrected.

Glad this issue has been resolved till this point. Let's see what the investigation yields.

Ciao Stefano,

Ow... same issue ???

I contacted iTunes support (see my update on 30 Jul 2012).

I found this via the UK site of Apple, it may be different in other languages:

iTunes Store in iTunes : Home

- Quick Links: Support (it will open Browser window), and in the english site it's in lower left corner: button with "Contact Support".

- iTunes Store : "Contact iTunes Store support"

then : "Purchases, Billing & Redemption"

then: "Topic is not listed"

I ended up here: https://expresslane.apple.com/Issues.action

Good luck! Please update your findings.
