Epson scan.app quits after each scan

Epson Perfection V600 connected to iMac using 10.6.8

Scan.app opens fine. After a scan is complete the app quits immediately. Wash rinse repeat.

Image capture works no problem.

Went through 90 minutes with Epson support in the Philipines and their conclusion is that it is a Mac OS 10.6.8 issue.

Unistalled the software, repaired permissions.

Appreciate any suggestions.

That it opens again w/o problems doesn't tell us much. But if it does a normal quit after scanning, that's something else, and I quite misunderstood your problem. I don't know what it could be. Just wool-gathering, you understand, but I'm thinking that either there is some setting or preference (not in the user domain) which tells it to do that, or there is some running process that sends it a message to quit. Have you installed the bundled OCR software? Maybe it's involved. Also, check the system and console logs with Console.app to see if there's any relevant message (recorded just before or just after the app quit).

Perhaps your best bet is to ask other V600 owners -- you can find some on Photo-Forums.

I reinstalled 10.6.0 from the retail disk. It did not change the behavior, still scanned and quit.

I reinstalled 10.6.8 combo.

I grabbed a portion of the console system log from before and after the last attempt with 10.6.8.

It shows a bug. I did find a post regarding a security update bug with the location number, but nothing that relates to epson scan and that location.

I don't know if it really means anything.

I followed the old adage of RTFM this evening and found this in Home > Scanning Your Originals > Finishing the Scan which includes these comments (my underlining):

Full Auto Mode:

If you started your scan from a TWAIN-compliant program such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, your scanned image opens in the program window. If Epson Scan does not automatically close after scanning, click Close to exit the Epson Scan window and view your image in the program window.

Office Mode, Home Mode, or Professional Mode:

If you started your scan from a TWAIN-compliant program such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, your scanned image(s) opens in the program window. If Epson Scan does not automatically close after scanning, click Close to exit the Epson Scan window and view your image(s) in the program.

I haven't tried this myself but it implies that quitting after a scan is a feature if you are scanning from a TWAIN-compliant program but not if you open the scan application directly. Question is which have you been doing - I don't think you have said.
