Mini Display Port to HDMI OR VGA blurry?

I have a mid 2010 macbook, the last edition before they stopped selling them, and I have a VGA to minidisplay port set up to my:

LG Flatron M228WD Television

Whenever I do this, the picture is always blurry... Could anyone tell me how to improve the picture and also possibly tell me how to find the correct resolution of my screen?

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro, and have the same trouble using a mini-displayport to HDMI adaptor with my 23.6" Teac LCD television.

I know that i can get a perfect crystal clear 1080p image on the TV (just a clear as my 24" asus monitor) because when i use a mini displayport to DVI adaptor, plugged into a DVI to HDMI adaptor... plugged into a hdmi cable to the TV.. everything works perfectly.

I understand that TV's (and even LCD tv's) are supposed to be viewed further away, but in my case the blurry image has absolutley nothing to do with how close i am. After searching a lot on the internet for a fix i have almost given up.

Hi beanscene. Just want to be sure I understand your post, as I'm getting poor res using an Element 24" LCD TV as a monitor (as it advertised). I am ready to take this TV back to the store.

Do I read that you get full res using this combo: Mac > mini diplayport > DVI > HDMI >TV? If that's the case it's worth getting those cables and adapters and giving it a try.

What I can't figure out is "After searching a lot on the internet for a fix i have almost given up." I'd really appreciate it if you'd clear this up for me. And many thanks for posting.

Hi Susan,

I get full resolution (1080p) on the 24" TEAC TV no matter what cable/adaptor configuration i use, but when i use a mini display port to hdmi cable (or mini displayport to hdmi adaptor to hdmi cable) the image quality is unbearably bad. Nothing is smooth and text is jagged and almost impossible to read.

Yes, you are correct when i use Mac > minidisplayport > DVI > HDMI > TV the picture is perfect! All i meant when i said i have almost given up is that i couldnt find an answer as to why my television would not display a decent picture quality when going through only Mac > minidisplayport > HDMI > TV. I wanted the ability to send sound to my TV though HDMI but as DVI does not support sound the use of a DVI to HDMI adaptor made this impossible. Hope this information is helpful 🙂

Andrew Wolczyk you are very wrong to say that you cannot get clarity on a TV. The model the OP is using is only a 22" television.. its smaller than the screen i sit 30cm from every day. Even when i plug my macbook into a 50" Plasma i still get a perfect clear and smooth picture through mini-displayport > HDMI. Only my TEAC 24" LCD TV seems to have the problem i stated with this cable/adaptor config.
