Mac Mail Exchange Alias (email address field greyed out)

When I respond to an email with 'reply al'l the mail server sends an extra copy to my inbox. I noticed that the mail server utilizes a different email address for my account (or at least an additional email address). Typically you can fix this by entering in the additional email addresses as alias into the email adress box under preferences, accounts... Well, that's only if the email adress field is not greyed out. When you create an account with exchange it prevents you from adding anything to the email address field (as it is greyed out).

Does anyone know how to add an alias in mac mail when using an exchange account?

Thank you,

Matt

I was able te make the feild editable by changeing the outgoing server to, anything else and saving by selecting another tab. The Email address field was then editable when going back the the accounts tab. I added a second email seperated by a comma and set the outgoing mail server back to Exchange and it adds the address and locks the field again when saving.

hey, I just wanted to say thanks- i'm not sure i was experiencing the same issue, but this actually helped me resolve not being able to add a second "send as" address for a distribution list i have set up for some people at work. They wanted to be able to have emails to a certain address go to a few people, and one of them have the ability to send as that address... with the email address line greyed out, i couldn't add a "send as" address. your plist wizardry allowed me to add the distribution list as an email send-as, and in my testing the message comes FROM that address, and hitting reply it goes back TO that same address. perfect.

thanks!

Hello,

I followed the instructions in this thread and it half worked. I do see the alias when I create a new email.

However, when I send an email from the alias, it goes through as the main email address: the recipient does NOT see the alias.

anyone knows or has ideas on what to try?

I'm also trying to set that up on my iPhone and have similar issues (there I cannot even select the alias. no matter what I do, it disappears when "saving" the settings).

I have the latest software updates:

Max OSX 10.10.5

iOS 9.0

thank you

Yes, with Mail V3, you can now do this in the accounts pane in the preferences.

You have a dropdown called aliases that allows you to add named aliases.

If you are using an exchange account, this option will be grayed out.

But if you choose a different outgoing mailserver, then save this (click on another account and press save, then go back).

Now the option is enabled, after adding/updating your aliases, choose Exchange again as outgoing mailserver.

Your aliases will be available from the dropdown in a new mail.

Hi,

i've done your suggestion, HermanJr, but all my mails with alias xyz, came in as the default mail-address that i used by adding my Office 365-Exchange Account to Apple Mail.

My primary mail-address in that Exchange-Account is also not more the special one, that i used in Apple Mail by adding to it.

Hmm, so I don't know any other conclusion... you too?
