I repeatedly get "unknown error (4)" when try to download upgrades

App Store tells me to try again later but I consistently get this error. I recently had my Apple ID corrupted. I thought it was fixed but could that be the problem? Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Yes, that could be the problem.

Quit the App Store if it's open.

Try "resetting" your Apple ID password > My Apple ID

When you're done open the App store and try updates

Thansk, Carolyn. Apple actually disabled my ID and changed it to a different email account for me. However, they seem to have been able to move everything attached to the old ID such as product registrations. I'd already lost things like my iTunes wishlist in the original mix up.

That's no big deal but hopefully I won't encounter issues when other updates are needed from the App Store. I had actually uninstalled the ones I was having problems with since they were freebies. Thanks again for you quick response and suggestion.

I started getting this "unknown error" tonight trying to download updates to four apps on my iPhone 4. I followed "retry" instructions to change my password two times now, to no avail. Anyways, I've had this same password since Gawd knows when - now it's no good?

And, yes, I updated my iCloud, Store and other settings to be the new password. Two times now.

No problem getting into the Apple Store and iTunes.

But still can't update from App Store.

What gives? All these snafus since iCloud are getting old.

I am also having this problem only in the Mac App store... my iPhone updates just fine. But I've had 2 apps on my mac that I've been trying to update for well over a week, and keep getting the "unknown error (4)" I have already recently reset my Apple password... Apple actually made me change it very recently... and everything works fine on my iPhone, and I can sign into my Apple account just fine on my mac... it's only when trying to update in the Mac App store.

I have closed the app store program completely and re-started, that does nothing. I hated already resetting my password once because I had one I preferred to use that's easy to do quickly for me on my iphone, and they made me change it to something more complicated... I don't want to have to change it again just for this, that would be ridiculous anyway and should have nothing to do with this error, especially since they JUST made me change it like a month ago and since that new password works fine everywhere else within Apple! Closing/resetting the app store does nothing, my recent password does nothing... nothing makes sense with this error! What the heck is going on?? It's bad enough here on my mac, I can only pray it doesn't start acting up on my iphone also, that would really tick me off!

I just wish they would get this figured out and fixed ASAP!!!

Koshiars... really??? Do you really think all the thousands of people that have this error haven't tried that insanely simple task? I've done ALL my software updates, many, many of them over the last few months... doesn't change this ridiculous, never-ending error at all!

And to Ryanfabian... I'm sure others have as well, but for sure I have signed out and back in... over & over & over... and again it does nothing!

Since so many people have this problem, it's obviously an issue on Apple's end, an issue they seem to be ignoring for some reason! I finally gave up and deleted the Mac App store altogether, too much hassle! Making me start to question Apple in general!!
