Newest Macbook that will run Tiger?

Hello,

I'd like to find out what is the most recent (or most powerful) Macbook that can run OS X 10.4.11 Tiger?

I have some apps that I'd still like to be able to use when I upgrade to a newer laptop. Still using a Powerbook Pismo - - which still works great BTW. 😁

Thanks!

David

Just to reinforce what Texas Mac Man says about getting the original discs. It's likely somebody will have upgraded the operating system on the computer so if you want Tiger you will have to install it yourself. However, Macbooks had a special Intel version of Tiger that only came on the original discs, not the retail version. This was not included on the retail version because it was assumed anybody who needed Tiger on a Macbook already had it because that's what came with the MB.

You can often get replacement original discs from Apple and this might be a possibility if somebody has a used MB for sale but not the discs (for some reason people lose these very quickly and don't realize how important they are as repair and diagnosis tools). However, before buying a MB on this assumption I would first double check Apple still has these in stock.

Yes and no. For the ones that are, I figured I could just use Classic Mode, for which Tiger is the last version I can do that with. But if a Macbook won't work with Classic, what is the most powerful notebook that can?

On the flip side, I really like Photoshop 7.0, which won't run on anything higher than 10.4.11 - - another reason for using Tiger.

So if I got one of the Macbooks Texas Mac Man mentioned, could I just install a retail version of Tiger, or do I need special discs? And am I correct in assuming I can download the updates from Apple to give me version 10.4.11?

Thanks.

David
