Solution: Redeem gift card "Session timed out" error

Like many others, I hit the "session timed out" block in trying to redeem iTunes gift cards. After unsuccessfully trying others' suggestions, I happened onto an approach that worked for me. The key was to start the process signed out.

Redeeming an iTunes gift card:

Go to iTunes home page
If you're signed in, sign out
In "Quick Links" on right, click on "Redeem"
Fill in the "Enter gift card number" box
At that point, iTunes asks you to sign in
For me, the card then was properly redeemed. However, when I attempted to redeem another card, I got the "session timed out" error message, so had to repeat the process above for additional card.

Hope this solution works for you.

FYI - my iTunes version is 9.2.1 (4)

didnt work for me. Everything goes ok until I click on the agree to terms and conditions then I get the session timed out message. What a joke! It looks like unless youre on an intel based machine you cant use itunes properly and dont even bother trying to sync an iphone 4 on an older Mac you have t get a PC. I mourn, I really mourn......

Have no idea how you stumbled across this, but you have made this lady very happy. I had 3 gift cards so signed out before and after each card and it worked beautifully. Thanks so much.

By the way I have an older Mac OS X 10.4.11.

OMG John Thank you so much for the "session timed out" info as it worked for me!!!!!

I am using an old Mac OS X 10.4.11, Itunes 9.2.1 & after getting 2 itune gift cards, was wondering what to do but thank U for the work around!! Now I can use my gift cards.......

I have the same problem but not when wanting to redeem a gift card, I just have this problem when wanting to purchase something 😟 I too am on OS X 10.4.11 and itunes 9... anyone got any solutions?
