Like many others, I hit the "session timed out" block in trying to redeem iTunes gift cards. After unsuccessfully trying others' suggestions, I happened onto an approach that worked for me. The key was to start the process signed out.

Redeeming an iTunes gift card:

  1. Go to iTunes home page
  2. If you're signed in, sign out
  3. In "Quick Links" on right, click on "Redeem"
  4. Fill in the "Enter gift card number" box
  5. At that point, iTunes asks you to sign in
  6. For me, the card then was properly redeemed. However, when I attempted to redeem another card, I got the "session timed out" error message, so had to repeat the process above for additional card.

Hope this solution works for you.

FYI - my iTunes version is 9.2.1 (4)

Next step: Purchase, which put me into an account verification "Session timed out" error cycle. My solution is similar, and I am posting it separately under - Solution: Purchase / account verification "Session timed out" error.
