Sorting bookmarks in safari on iPad
Is there a way to sort bookmarks in safari on iPad other than tediously dragging them about manually? Also I don't seem to be able to move the bookmarks that were already in the bookmark list by default.

Sort by what though? Alphabetically? Date created?
Most people have dozens, if not hundreds, of bookmarks in a variety related categories/folders, often a few levels deep, that are organised in a way that is unique to that person. No browser can automatically sort bookmarks exactly how each individual prefers.
I too am astonished that Safari doesn't offer the option to easily alphabetize the current layer of bookmarks. This basic feature is included in Firefox and Internet Explorer, both free browsers. I understand that Safari is a far more stripped-down browser than either of those, but it seems that this is one completely basic feature that you don't strip away.
Hello, I don't want to get in the middle of what is clearly a heated debate about the merits of this and that, but I came her for HELP. How do you alphabetize bookmarks in Safari on an iPad? I realize from the debate that it's not included as standard, but is there an app that will do it perhaps (I couldn't find one).
Thank you.
The heated debate took place before Christmas in 2011. I think we have all moved on.
There is no app that will sort bookmarks for you in any fashion in Safari. You will have to do it manually, by dragging the books in alphabetical order on your own.
Lanch Safari and tap the bookmarks icon. Tap the Edit button at the top. Drag the bookmarks up and down in the list by holding down on the three horizontal lines to the right of the bookmarks. When you have them in alphabetical order, tap Done.
You will have to realphabetize every time that you add a new bookmark.
I got an app for my Mac air called * Safari sort.
I love it.
I like my book marks in alphabetical order! #justsayin
My emphathy towards you, cannot believe this people gave you painful answers. I am looking on some way to sort my bookmark folders in Safari usin my ipad...which I think it is a common feature.
Why did designers allow you to create folders and not sort them automatically?
The people here may simply answer, the feature is not yet available.
How can we make a request for this feature then?
As soon as I tap "Done", after alphabetizing all bookmarks manually, they'll go back to the spots they were before I alphabetized them.
we pay for ipad, and safari is embedded in ipad mandatory , so it's need to improve! otherwise we will abandon it!!
Knock yourself out.
But you do realize there are quite a few other browsers available in the app store, right?
because safari is embedded in iOS, it represents apple's repute. so if safari is not convenient , more and more users will think apple is provide bad apps in their iOS , do you think this is OK? safari has a lot of inconvenient things compared with other web browser , such as "close all tabs", "sort bookmarks" , etc. because they are still in iOS, so a lot of users struggled to use it. if apple abandon it, I think safari will improve quickly, otherwise, they will lose users. this is the truth.
I'm having a hard time understanding some of the responses behaving as if this is an unusual request. That means you Julian. Alpha sort is a pretty common request. And when folks request alpha sort - they mean alpha within folder, not alpha overall. It takes only a touch of common sense to understand that that is what was meant. I am moving to the mac world from pc and I am trying to give Safari a fighting chance. I see what others see - an obvious basic feature that is not present. A feature available on other browsers mind you.
Thanks. You solved my bookmarks order issue. Nice clear explanation.
I have actually downloaded several browsers for the iPad and none of them can sort bookmarks! I think that this is a feature that is deficient on the iPad. These features are usually provided as part of the developer framework and I think it's just missing from the iPad library. It's strange that there wouldn't be a sorting feature as part of the development kit.
Oh well I still love my iPad.
I like it too but I do not like the contempt shown for the voice of the customer.
