Repetitive clicking noise on SSD Macbook Air

Just simply open your back cover with proper screwdriver,.. Rotate your fan by your hand till it smooth feel,.. and power on carefully with the case opened,..

see if the fan blow?

repeat if the fan still stop,.. I did that in my new MBA just bought 2 weeks ago,..and the fan exactly the same as your problem,. Success for me,..Now everything is OK

i tried and sound stopped, but fan is whirling loudly now, will it stop?

I was experiencing the same problem and the knock did it for me! I had to "hit" the top left back side once with medium force and my laptop made a clicking noise and then the fan started moving. All fixed! Thanks!

Wow - this worked! I knocked the bottom, then svuuuuuush and the sound is gone!!! I first tried knocking the top, but it did not work, so thank you!

OMG this worked, a hard few bangs with fingers top left of the escape button caused the fans to clear and kick in, thanks!

This works like a charm. The knocks to that area didn't work. But just shaking my laptop mainly in a motion that would get the fan to start spinning again got it to work. I heard the loud fan noise after and VOILA no more clicking sounds every 4-6 seconds 🙂

Had to tap behind the fan but it worked! thanks! saved me a trip to the geniuses.

This same exact issue happened to me today. Following Angus's suggestion to tap near the escape key and the fan spun up. Hope this is the last time it happens. Thanks for the tip!
