if i download a texting app, will whoever i text from that app show up on my phone records???
iPhone 4
which ones dont appear on my phone bill?
becauseeee, im not supposed to be talking to someone, but i was wondering if i downloaded the app on my phone and sent texts through that, if it would show up on my phones records and what not..even though its not directly through my messages on my phone, but through an app on my phone..
So basically you are asking us to help you figure out a workaround so you can text your boyfriend that your parents do not approve of?
You need to look for a texting app (http://www.appshopper.com is a good place to look) that provides "free" texting. These apps use other servers and do not go through the SMS so they do not show up on the bill. Alternatively if your significant and frowned upon other got an iPhone and went to iOS 5, and so did you, your messages would be sent via iMessage and would not show up on the bill.
Why don't your parents want you texting this guy? Is he a biker drug selling communist with inappropriate tatoos?
So long as you both have good reception and both phones are on and the iMessage server is up, yes. And to make doubly sure go to Settings > Messages > Send as SMS and turn it off.
He's a right wing Republican tea party Glen Beck worshiper who only watches Fox news and your parents are yellow dog democrats who have pictures of Obama throughout your house?
No iMesssage is similar to Blackberry Messenger and is a messaging system between iDevices using iOS 5. It uses the server farm at Apple's facility in North Carolina and is not sent via the phone system, hence no record on the phone bill. If you have an iPhone with iOS 5, and so does he, when you message him it will say iMessage in the text box and the Send button background will be blue. Text messages will say Text in that box and the Send button will be Green. As I said if you are going to use this go into settings > messages > Send As SMS off or else when you text him if iMessage is not available it will send it as a normal text message and will be on the bill.
Better that he not get the message than your parents confiscate all of your iDevices and put you on bread and water.
He went to Boston College, played football there and caught a pass that defeated the Hokies and your parents both went to Virginia Tech?
Iffy about what? I'm texting someone right now who is trying to talk me into getting them a Garmin GPS running watch and they are all going via iMessage. Send button is blue, the balloon with my responses is blue. On the computer I am in my AT&T account. I also iMessaged a local police chief this morning while at the same time texting my brother (no iPhone). The record of the texts with my brother show up on my account; the iMessages with the Chief do not.
What more info do you need on iMessage?
Again, you have to have an iPhone updated to iOS 5.0.x, he will have to have an iPhone with iOS 5.0.x. You both will have to enable iMessage. And both of you have to be absolutely sure to turn Send As SMS to OFF.
Depends on the texting app.
so in other words, if i went to iOS 5 and him too, they iMessage wouldnt show up on the bill? are you sure? haha, or any other "free" texting apps?
and its a long story.... hahahaha
