Can I change to digital optical out from spdif to adat?

I'm hoping to connect the optical out of my macbook pro directly to a UA 2192. The optical input on the 2192 only accepts adat. Is there a software way to switch the output of the mac from spdif to adat. I know this is possible on other units ie the digi 002 optical outs are switchable from within the hardware setup in pro tools. Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi dajaun, I'm confused at some of your terminology. s/pdif is a port/audio only interconnect port for transmitting 5.1 audio only. There is no such port on a MBP. There IS a DVI connector for a Video signal, and the standard mini audio jack which is stereo. Maybe if you explain to me exactly what you are trying to do it would help. What brand is UA? I have a Denon AVR-5805 with s/pdif; TOS; HDMI, DVI, ieee, etc. etc... and I have a MBP... but there is no way to interface the MBP (a 2-channel sound device) to a 5.1 audio input source.... or am I missing the point of what you are trying to do. Please explain further. Also see.

This is the unit i'm trying to connect to http://www.uaudio.com/support/2192-converter

It has coaxial spidif in and optical adat in unfortunately it doesn't have optical spdif in

the MBP audio output jack has the toslink output but as of right now it seems to only encode in spdif, in order for the unit to recognize the audio i need to find a way to get my MBP to spit out ADAT through the toslink.

In pro tools with a digi 002 they have the lightpipe connector and it is switchable from ADAT to SPDIF in the software. I was wondering if this is possible on a MBP

Bruce: The headphone port in all recent MBPs is both analog and digital. Connect a standard headphone plug, and it outputs 2-channel analog stereo. Connect a mini-TOSLink plug, and if you're playing a 5.1-channel source such as a commercial movie DVD, the port will output optical 5.1-channel surround sound to any compatible device.

Unfortunately I have no idea about the answer to dajaun's question.
