How do I transfer pictures from a smart media card? I have an older Olympia camera and a 'Simple' card reader plugged into USB port.

Typically placing teh card in the care reader will start the process - in the iPhoto preferences what do you have set as the action when a camera is connected?

Thanks for your reply! You're right about what happens typically... but this is a Macbook and it doesn't do a thing when I plug the smart reader into the USB port. Maybe this reader is defective or just too old. I don't know what the iPhoto preferences is set at! I'm pretty new to Mac and in the dark with lots of stuff.
Launch iPhoto. Does it ask to import from the card?
No. Sorry I didn't answer right away but I couldn't figure out why it did not give me the option to reply to your post! I have no idea why it signed me out but I had to sign in to respond.
Does the card appear on the Desktop?
Nope. There is no indication that the computer even knows that the card reader has been attached. My old desktop made that sound when it was attached and another one if you disconnected the reader.
Well that does sound like an issue with the card, the card reader and/or the cable.
Try swap those for others.
