WaveBurner discontinued?

Just curious if WaveBurner is now discontinued or if it will be added to the App Store? Amazing product. One of the main reasons I use Logic. Would hate to loose this.

just a hunch, but i feel like waveburner won't realistically make it to the app store, but maybe instead the next version of logic may have much of its functionality built in (that's what I hope for at least).

However, don't forget that as far as apple is concerned, the audio CD is dead and waveburner has always been first and foremost a CD creation tool. I would not put it past them to End-Of-Life it and not add back any CD creation tools into Logic.

Arvid..

I think that's a very good guess, my hunch is that basic CD creation will be added to Logic and Waveburner will go EOL, much the same as iDVD and Soundtrack Pro.

I wouldn't look for an extensive multi-featured arrangement like Waveburner. If you want to run Bootcamp there is always the Fantastic "CD Architect" by Sony.

As you've mentioned.. to Apple, DVDs and CDs are old technology and will no longer be supported. Unfortunately, 90% of my clients want CDs or DVDs. I think when Apple has wrung all the money they can out of the format they move on and force users to upgrade, often when they don;t need to.

Yeah. I can see that being spot on. If they put some waveburner featured into the next version of logic (multiple track burning, transitions between cd tracks, DDP export, etc.), then I'm cool with that. I think moving it to the app store was long overdue, but I expected that the full-featured logic studio would loose some functionality. I'm glad that new users will still get the full library of audio samples. I was worried this would shrink for downloading purposes.

Typically, I am for Apple moving people forward. I totally get transitioning out optical drives on consumer products. Really not necessary anymore. But for the pro user, it's still too early to loose this. Can't really have a recording studio or produce a project without burning at some point. I'm glad I snagged a Logic Studio upgrade box a couple months ago.

On 10.7 i have both the waveburners from logic 8 (1.5.2) and 9 (1.6.1) installed side by side because if you didn't need automation or the mix lane, WB from logic 8 was quicker to edit in. Both worked great on my 10.6 machine, but i've hardly used them on my new 10.7 machine since i figured out a trick for batch-boucning in Logic. They both open project files and play is all I know. Just zip the app you want to save before doing the update, then unzip and rename afterwards.

You're lucky you have a copy because I doubt if it's going to be offered in the App Store.

iDVD is EOL, SoundtrackPro is EOL and I'm pretty sure Waveburner is EOL as well... it's not posted as an extra at the app store is it? Apple is dropping support for removable (CD, DVD) media. It's a not so subtle way to push users onto their iCloud storage system.

Unfortunately many medium level studios and video houses still rely on CD and DVD media.

I called Apple Support, and also chatted online with someone from the Online Apple Store. I know this will hardly come as any surprise but, I got confirmation that:

  1. The boxed Logic Studio is no longer available;
  2. WaveBurner isn't available on the Mac App Store in any shape or form, nor are they aware of any plans to make it availabe on the App Store;
  3. Logic Studio 8 isn't supported on OS X Lion.

After playing with my existing copy of Waveburner from Logic Studio 8 on my newly-upgraded-to-Lion Mac, and discovering several problems, I realsied I only had one choice: find a boxed upgrade from Studio 8 to Studio 9 from *somewhere*. Fotunately, a reseller on Amazon.co.uk was happy to oblige for about £160, shrinkwrapped and legit. There still seems to be plenty out there.

Still, it's a shame that Apple have seem to have EOL'd some very good software (The DDP issue notwithstanding: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3068188?start=0&tstart=0). I know that Apple are all about driving the future, and that future doesn't have a place for physical media. But how to I explain that to my clients who sell their CDs out of a suitcase at gigs?

FWIW, I registered my two cents here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/logicpro.html
