Can't log in with AIM name.
My friend is having issues logging into iChat with her AIM name. She can log in on regular AIM just fine, but can't log into iChat.
Any idea of what's going on? Here's the error message she's getting.
iChat-OTHER
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I don't use iCloud, @me, or Little Snitch and I'm still not able to log in. Is there anyone from Apple we can email about this? I tried changing ports, deleting/adding the account, trying it without the password, and in my Keychain, there is no password or anything for iChat listed. This is pretty aggravating and it's still not working 2 or 3 days later. Is there anyone official we can talk to about this or are the forums our only option? Thanks.
Hi,
Apple do have this page (iChat Feedback)
It gives you several options from Wish List stuff to enhancement requests.
You don't get a reply.
It does make then aware of issues in the short term - which in turn can make Apple lean on AIM if the issue is with the AIM end.
If it is a server issue where AIM cannot verify an @mac.com or @me.com address then that will also tend to get silently sorted.
If you have AppleCare for the computer you are wanting to use iChat on then you may use that to contact someone at Apple directly.

The oddities continue.....
In spite of your advice, I did go ahead and upgrade my wife's MacBook to 10.7.2 never having resolved this iChat login issue.
Well - I did the upgrade - launched iChat - and she connected! (sort of). The new server is like mine:
api.oscar.aol.com with Port 443 and "use SSL" selected.
HOWEVER....once I signed off her iChat and tried it again - it would not connect with the same username/password combo admonishment. Quit iChat app - launched - signed in again - worked, but I could not reolicate that.
So something is assuredly up with some AIM/iChat servers AFAIK
Hi Theo,
I am very late here today as I have been caught up with something else.
Over the past three or four weeks I have been booting in to iChat on my Snow Leopard computer to do some Bonjour Chat testing.
I have not noticed any issue with any of my AIM names.
I will test further tomorrow.

Hi There i follow the same discussion here. I've got the same problem on my MacBook Pro 2,66 GHz Intel Core i7 with Lion 10.7.2.
I tried everything what you also did port 443 ect. Nothing. I must use iChat for my work when i'm working @home.
I must connect to Jabber with iChat but gives the same error it keeps asking about my passw.
I hope we can figure it out...
Hi, I'm also having a problem loging on to iChat with my AIM name and password.
I'm on a Mac Pro, 2 x 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed.
I've tried everything listed above, but with no joy.
Everything was working fine and iChat worked fine on Friday when I last used this computer. I can log onto AIM online, so I know my user name and password is correct.
Please help as I also need iChat for work .
Hi sweeda,
A Jabber account would normally use port 5222 (non SSL) or port 5223 (SSL Login) to do the Login to the Jabber Server you use.
The exception might be if you have a GoogleMail ID and are logging in to the talk.google.com server which will accept logins on port 443.
The issue with using ports above 1024 is that these are not normally open in a domestic device and have to be enabled either by using UPnP or opening the ports using Por Forwarding or Port Triggering.

Hi,
Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and open Activity Monitor
Find and highlight the IMAgent item
Use the Quit Button and confirm a Force Quit
iChat, if open, will go off line at this stage.
IMAgent will automatically restart.
Restart iChat.
If that does not work make the Finder the front App (The one showing in the Menu Bar)
Use the Go Menu and hold the ALT key down to see the Library option
Select this.
Go to the Preferences folder and find com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and the .lockfile of the same name.
Drag both to the Trash.
Restart iChat.

Hi Ralph
Yeah i also tried to closed the IMAgent many times and restart ichat. But it still keeps asking for the password.
...and the same sign-in problem persists for me when trying the IMAgent trash maneuver as noted above
Hi sweeda and Theo,
Can you access the Home Folder/Library/Preferences and highlight the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and then do a Get Info (CMD and i keys together) ?
In the last section about Ownership and Permissions do you own this file ?
Your Shortname should be listed in the listIf you use the Padlock and then the cogwheel type icon your shortname should appear greyed out in the line that says "Make shortname (me) the Owner" (where the shortname is yours of course).
Can you also access the Home Folder/Library/Keychains
First do a Get Info on the login.keychain and see if you own that.
If you do then open Keychain Access (Application/Utilities) and check that the name you are trying to use has the password you expect and the Access tab is allowing iChat to access it.

Hi Ralph
I tried to find the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist but it isn't there anymore. Because in an earlier message you said to through them in your trash.
"
Go to the Preferences folder and find com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and the .lockfile of the same name.
Drag both to the Trash.

And now it seem he doen'st make a new one.
UMM,
That suggests that you might not have Permissions to Write to things in the Preferences folder or in the enclosing Library folder itself.
Go to the Library and do a Get Info (CMD and i keys) on the Preferences folder itself.
I will have to work out how you get to do the dsame for the Library itself.
