Can't log in with AIM name.

My friend is having issues logging into iChat with her AIM name. She can log in on regular AIM just fine, but can't log into iChat.

Any idea of what's going on? Here's the error message she's getting.

Thanks for that.

Mine was blank when I went there.

(There again I have several IDs that can log in to AIM including some older @mac.come ones)

Hi

I'm also getting "the screen you entered is not valid" error. This just started this morning. I can't login from my laptop or my computer at work. Curiously I also cannot login from the AIM site, but I can through the AIM app on my iphone. I've tried the above solutions in this thread with no luck. Nothing has changed in my settings from yesterday to this morning on either computer. Any idea what's going on?

Hi,

You should be able to access you account settings whilst logging in to iCloud using a web browser.

@mac.com and MobileMe issued @me.com names can have the password changed here at iForgot

HI,

From time to time the various AIM servers do seem to go out of Sync.

At one time they advertised that "Names" were "for Life"

Nowadays it seems that unused Screen Name are re-released into use. This does mean though that any Buddy list still listing old Buddy names have to be purged.

Also when you log in you are in fact logged in to several servers doing different things.

1) sends you your Buddy list

2) another checks the flags settings about who is On Line

3) another updates the Buddy pics.

4) Text Chats and File Sharing tend to be other servers.

Any issue with any of them tends to cause issue with the login.

HI,

SO you have an Apple ID that ends @me.com ?

Is this form a iCloud Registration ?

Are you using it with iChat 5 or Lower ? (It will not work with those)

Hi,

So if I asked would you tell me you are getting a message from AIM saying either the name or Password is wrong ?

(To be clear I am asking)

IF this is the case shorten your password to 16 characters or Less

(that's changing it at iCloud then in iChat 6)

This is because these Apple IDs are valid AIM Screen Names as well but the AIM server can only cope with passwords up to 16 characters.

If it does not appear to be the Password issue can you give me more details please ?

HI,

Have you Enabled "Talk" on your Account at Google.

This can only then work in iChat if it is a GoogleMail ID (Ending in either @gmail.com or @googlemail.com)

If you have Enabled "Talk" on your account then the thing to look to is what name did you stick in iChat And what appears when you login to the Google Mail Web Page.

It makes a difference at this point if the name ends @googlemail.com and you enter @gmail.com (Strangely Mail seems to get away with either but the server here is more fussy)
