iTunes Extra not working

I have download three movies recently with iTunes and the iTunes Extras bonus content does not work. I get a menu screen but no content. I can highlight the links. I can access the chapters and watch the movie and access online websites.

I have iTunes 10.5.1 and am running on Windows 7. I have downloaded The Incredibles, Dark Knight, and The Other Guys. The bonus content on all three are unavailable to me. I have been instucted to download The Incredibles and the Dark Knight again and no luck.

Also, a few months ago, I download Red and Xmen Origins: Wolverine, and those Extras work. So what gives?😕

I have been talking with account servies, tech support and the engineering dept at Apple, and they just don't care. after a couple of weak trouble shooting steps, I have not heard from them in weeks. At this point, all I want is a partial refund for the content I paid for yet can't watch, but they will not respond to my emails. My patience is gone. iTunes fails. Apple support fails.

They don't care, they are doing nothing to fix the problem. They have your money, that's all that matters.

This is one way that I got the iTunes extras to work on my computer. Hugo and Tranformers DOTM, both were messed up when I downloaded them from iTunes. I searched around on here and this is what got mine to work:

Delete the movie from your library, but 'keep the files', then go to <file>, add to library, find the original movie file and add it to iTunes.

Now the movie plays fine and also the extras play fine. Shame on Apple engineers for letting this bug slip out!

I would still like to hear if anybody else has Hugo or Transformers, and their copy's DO work.

This also was affecting my 'The Thing' digital copy I downloaded. Doing the above, fixed the problem.

sorry i should of explained in further detail. I know where the files are but theyre not working because their names have changed, so i guessed then changed one files name and got it right, so then it worked on the extras. It has to be a certain file name to work. And so i was wondering if you could give me the file names for the extras videos, something like what you did with the person who had a problem with batman begins. thanks i hope you can help

Hello all, well ever since the 10 release, they fianally fixed the problem after 10.6 or 10.7. I've enjoyed these past few month with no problems downloading movies and extra's. UNTIL NOW!!! VERSION 11 CAME OUT and they screwed it up again!!! UNREAL! I did what I always did. I complained and they did nothing. I'm so ****** I don't know what to say now. Unreal! I'm just going to keep a list of extra's that are stuck in the download folder and when they come out with a fix, I'm going to request they let me download ALL the extra's that didn't work all at one time. WHO the **** is working at Apple now? Microsoft developers? What a pain. If its not broken, DON'T FIX IT!

Hello I just wanted to thank tt2 for his helpful post.

The problem I had been having was that the downloading of the film (with iTunes Extras) had been interrupted, so that the "iTunes extras" had gone into a temporary downloads file, and what's more each Special Features video had been put into a separate temporary folder (and not into the correct "videos" folder). This meant that clicking on the Special Features on the iTunes extras page in iTunes did nothing whatsoever.

I googled the problem and came across this thread and tt2 was absolutely right. If you check in the file called ...\controllers\data.js(I opened this file with Windows Notepad) then you will see what the correct names of the Special Features video files should be. With a bit of trial and error you can identify each video (since each had downloaded under the unhelpful name "Download" !) and once you have renamed the video files you then need to move them into the videos folder which gets created inside the iTunes Extras folder.

Now when I click on the Special Features videos in the iTunes Extras page each video plays correctly. Job's a good 'un! Good work tt2.

What the Dickens.

I need help with this iTunes Extras not playing problem. Question at the bottom.

Am I right in thinking that the ...\controllers\data.js file mentioned above is part of the Windows version of iTunes? I'm using iTunes in a Mac and for my first movie download bought the HD extended edition of The Hobbit. I noticed that the extras were also downloading (16GB!), but that got stuck after completion, with a status of 'Processing 100%'. It didn't change over to 'Done'. I found about 60 sub-folders of Extras movies in the Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads folder. They can be opened and played individually in Quicktime but aren't showing in the iTunes Library.

I also needed the SD version of The Hobbit, to sync with my iPad1. When I downloaded it, it got stuck 'processing' as well. I found the .tmp file in the iTunes Media/Downloads folder in Finder and dropped it onto my iTunes Library. It went in, but to Home Videos, not Movies. iTunes refused to play it. Quicktime also refused when I moved the file back to Downloads. I restarted everything and downloaded the SD version again - it went into the Library this time, but made the HD version disappear! Arrgghh! But I got it into my iPad, so that's something.

So, the question is, how can I get the 16GB of iTunes Extras content that is sitting as .tmp files in the iTunes Media/Downloads folder to appear in iTunes and play? I'm hoping the answer isn't, "Restart and download it all again. Keep your fingers crossed tighter this time!"

Thanks.

Ah, I've just noticed this is an 'iTunes for Windows' section. Silly me. I'll cross post over in the Mac world, but if you happen to know the answer I'd appreciate your help. :-)

Hi Rick,

the short answer is that I don't know what the situation is on a Mac, unfortunately, so I hope that someone on the Mac side has been able to point you in the right direction.

Not having a Mac, I don't know if the ...\controllers\data.js file is just on the Windows version of iTunes or if you can also find it in the Mac version you'll be running. It might be worth having a look for it: in the Movies folder inside your iTunes Music folder you'll hopefully see an iTunes Extras folder for The Hobbit - it should hopefully have been created even if the Extras went into the Downloads folder. (By the way, I am fairly sure that the Downloads folder in iTunes Music is simply a temporary folder - files go in here temporarily while you are downloading them but then once the download is complete they should move to their proper home. Files only get "stuck" in here if the download is interrupted in some way).

So as I said it could be worth checking to see if you have this file:
iTunes Music > Movies > The Hobbit > iTunes Extras.ite > controllers > data

If you have this file then try and open it using any type of text program, just so you can see the text written there and hopefully you will then see the correct names of the Video files. Also here you should learn how many Extras videos there are, and if you have the patience you could then manually edit the names of the temp files and then cut and past the files individually into the following folder:

iTunes Music > Movies > The Hobbit > iTunes Extras.ite > videos

However a couple of times I have had downloads which were interrupted, which creates temporary files in the Downloads folder, and so I have simply deleted the temporary files and then redownloaded the movie or podcast or whatever. However since you are talking about 16GB of iTunes Extras files I understand you are reluctant to do this!

I would also warn you not to expect a ton of help from Apple Support over this, I think that at this time of year they get overloaded with suport requests and so I'd be surprised if they got back to you quickly. Probably your best bet is somebody on the Mac side of things who has had this problem before and found a fix.

Good luck!

Also, if this helps, I opened it in Word so you can see all that code stuff.
