How to unlock iPhone 4 locked to 3 UK?

hello I am from turkey. my brother bring iphone from uk three.I can use it in starting and then I want to increase the version of the phone and then my phone shows no service.What can I do ?

Your iPhone was hacked/modified/jailbroken to allow its use

in Turkey. When you updated the iOS version, the iPhone was

relocked to the original wireless carrier.

You must contact that original wireless carrier to see if they offer

unlocking and if you qualify. Only the wireless carrier that the iPhone

is locked to can unlock it.

Be advised that the jailbreak/hack has 2 effects - the warranty is

voided and you cannot get help/support here or from Apple, and

a legitimate unlock may not complete due to the modifications made

to the iPhone.

Google may provide some direction, but you also may be the owner

of anuseable and unrestoreable iPhone.

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 locked to 3 UK. The contract period has ended and they contacted my friend from which i have the phone and that is the owner of the terminated contract that the phone will be unlocked.

I tried using the Reset to factory settings and switching the original activated sim with an new SIM from other carrier but still the error in iTunes is that the SIM is not supported.

Did you do a full Restore or only a Factory reset that got your iPhone unlocked? if a do a full restore this will update my phone to iOS 6 and because perfermance issues i would like to stick to iOS 4 or at least update to 5.

No. As has been said several times now, only the carrier to which the iPhone is locked can officially unlock it. If you cannot get 3 UK to unlock your iPhone, sell it to someone in the UK who can use it with that carrier and buy an iPhone in India that will work with the carrier you wish to use.

I am in the same situation with the topic owner. i bought an iphone 4s from ebay in UK. it was locked by 3,

i contacted the seller but he is the father of the owner of my iphone 😟. His son now in afghaghistan for miltary sercice for at least 6months. 😟.

the father helps me to contact 3 today but they all refuse to unlock my phone. (i live outside the UK) because he is not an orginal owner of the phone. only his son can contact them and they need to put a 3 SIM into my phone to unlock.

now what should i do, could apple help me to unlock abroadly from UK ?

I know that ONLY carrier can unlock or at least provide rights for apple to unlock my phone.

his son can't call back to the carrier because he only has one phone call everyweek to his family.

now i am very upset about that, just my fault when not clarifying anything before buying the phone

i am very confused about what should i do now, because inserting a micro sim, i myself cut my own Standard sim and now i dont have sim to use with my old phone.

Apple do not unlock iPhones for anyone or any reason

Carriers lock iPhones because they subsidise the cost in the contract ,so only the carrier can unlock it

Apple has no say or involvement other than maintaining a database to hold the status of every iPhone on behalf of the carriers world wide to which carriers access directly to release an iPhone

If the eBay listing did not specify it was locked OR claimed it was file a claim against the seller

Now i have to wait at least 6months for my phone to be unlocked by its original owner. poor me

i want to confirm again that although apple won't offciailly unlock the iphone. Carrier can ask apple to help them clearing the locked status (or unlock) remotely if you are not in the region of the carrier.

so there is no need to use a 3 sim card to unlock the phone. apple can help then after the carrier ask them to cross out the Locked IMEI.

3 UK will only unlock an iPhone

The iPhone is in use on the 3 network in the UK and can be seen by 3 as active in the UK

You will not get that iphone unlocked unless it is in the UK and the previous owner has processed the request and 3 have agreed

Very lucky indeed. I have been told today by 3 that they wikll not unlock my phone under any circumstances because it was bought on ebay, Any ideas on what I can do?

If 3 has refused, there's nothing you can do to get the iPhone officially unlocked. Only 3 could authorize unlocking, and many carriers will do so only for the person with whom they have a contract.
