can I control canon camera from os x?

I have a canon powershot sx210 is and I want to be able to control it from os x lion, like is taking pictures or recording videos. possibly even as a webcam. when i connect it to usb and poweron, it just loads it as a device in image capture. the lense doesn't come out either. when i power it on and then connect it later to usb, the lense retracts and it goes into the previously mentioned mode.

i dont even know if this is possible but I think its possible to control the camera via the computer. please tell me if this is possible, and how?

There is 3rd party software available. I've seen comments from Mac users about stop motion software and their Canon camera. But from memory their issue is that there is no driver/plugin available for Lion and thus the operation cannot be performed. All they have is the ability to download images from the camera, as you have done with Image Capture.

I know that with my Canon video camera connected to my Mac via firewire, I can remotely control it via iMovie. But the same operation cannot be done when the vidcam is connected to the Mac via USB.

Hopefully someone else with more knowledge on the subject will join in and give you the information you need.
