Logic Pro - 19GB of 'optional' content available via in-app purchase.

This seems weird. IN the App Store see the System Requirments sections and it says..."19GB of 'optional' content available via in-app purchase." Logic Pro to buy normally, was gigabites of stuff....thisd App Store purcxhase is only 413Mb.

Can anybody tell me

a. What this 'optional' content via in-app purchase is?

b. How much this 'optional' content via in-app purchase is and

c. Didn' t Logic Pro 9 used to ship with masses of content...I mean Gigabits of the stuff. This App Store Download in only 413MB...doesnt that mean that yes its is less money to buy...but for it would seem less stuff.

Have Apple been very cleaver here...I mean clever?

Hi

If you "interrupt" the download and install process, you can get to the installers before they run.

You *could* then use Pacifist to extract the files to another location, BUT:

Some of the files need to be placed in <BootDisk>:Library:Application Support (Logic or Garageband). You would need to be *really* careful when you manually copied these so as to avoid deleting previously installed material.

Might be easier to download and install each content package, install it then move things like the Apple Loops.

I just wanted to add to this conversation that I had existing folders from an older install on my machine. They were in some cases incomplete (missing exs24 samples for example).

I bought Logic Pro when it was released from the app store and ran these additional content packages - and in my experience they did *not* overwrite the existing folders.

In other words I downloaded the content, ran the install (which then deleted itself) having left the incomplete folders untouched and still incomplete.

I am now in the process of re-downloading...

The reason why I've bought Logic Pro 9 from the App Store (and NOT the Studio box which is available for the same price on eBay...) is that I want to use it on my other Macs too.

How can I copy these 19 GB content (after downloading to my first Mac) to my other Macs?

Which folders exactly do I have to copy?

I wouldn't want to repeat these GIGANTIC downloads for my other Macs.

Many thanks!

Is there any way to save the 19GB to a custom location for backup?

Hi See the post above from georgyK, or

Firstly, the applications themselves are automatically installed in the Applications Folder. These can be copied to new installations fine. If I have it right, Logic is the oddball with this new method. FCPX and Motion 5 place all the require files within the application packages, whilst Logic and Mainstage require files to be placed in the Library folder.

Second, the 'Additional Content':

The downloads are automatically stored in a hidden folder until completed, and then the installers automatically run, placing the files in the appropriate Library folders. Once the installation is complete, the downloaded files are automatically deleted.

Provided that your OS requires an Admin password to run the installers, it is possible to interrupt the installer process so that you can copy/backup the downloaded package files.

Here's how (these instructions work for OSX.7.2):

Start the download process from LP9.1.6 or MS 2.2

Using the Finder Go to Folder menu, enter "/private/var/folders/" (without the quotes)

A poke around in the various folders that are inside here will reveal folder called "com.apple.MusicApps" and inside there, a folder called "audiocontentdownload.apple.com".

Finally, inside here is a folder called "lp9_ms2_content_2011

The downloaded packages are temporarily stored here.

Once downloading is complete, Logic or Mainstage will prompt for an Admin password before completing the install process.

Before entering the password, copy the installer packages to another location. The installation can then be carried out (and the original packages automatically deleted by the installer process).

Thanks for your answer. Do I understand this correctly, that I have to interrupt the download to be able to use the installers for the other Macs?

But what if it's too late for that, if I already installed everything on my first Mac? Would it alternatively be possible to copy the installed content files to my other Macs? If yes, what and how?

Thanks again!
