I'm trying to place an order for a book in iPhoto 11 running mac os x 10.6.8 and I am constantly getting this bloody error message. I have tried 3 different cards on 2 different accounts. My internet connection is definitely working.
Can someone help identify the issue or are you experiencing the same issue? Has the Christmas demand overwhelmed Apple's servers?

I kept receiving that error since yesterday, browsed around and found a solution ( I thought ) to my problem. I changed the "set date and time automatically" in system prefs to nothing ( unchecked the box ) - resubmitted the book and it actually uploaded - then it said "unable to finalized order" however I checked my email and I did receive a confirmation email with an order number. So I "think" it went through "fingers crossed"
I'm getting this same problem, and tried your solution. No email yet. .Just "Unable to finalize order. Please try again." I will sit tight and see if an email goes through. The upload did appear to happen.
Got the email. Fingers also crossed. So weird that "Set date and time automatcally" would affect things. How did you guess THAT?
BECAREFUL - do not retry if you get the error messages. The charges are still going through to credit cards. I have 5 charges on my account with no orders. Call Apple and got nothing. They are not even aware of the problem. Then they told me to call my bank about the charges. NICE WORK APPLE!

Really hope VISA is NOT charged each time, that would become a nasty affair...

Same story here. 😟 I recently was reading reviews for the "Cards" iPhone app (the Apple made card making app) and people had similar complaints so at least after one attempt I knew to switch from my debit to my credit card so I won't deplete my bank account.
DO NOT KEEP RE-TRYING AS THIS WILL CANE YOU BANK ACCOUNT LIKE I JUST FOUND OUT £170 GONE OUT OF MY ACCOUNT FOR AN ORDER OF £11.00. WHICH HAS NOT EVEN BEEN PROCESSED NICE ONE APPLE YOU BETTER SORT THIS ASAP
same problem in italy .... ...100 euro gone out... i'm very disappointed for that and i can't delete the order because for apple it doesn't exist.... what can i do?!!?!?!?
Having the same issue here. So I haven't tried the date/time workaround, but have tried purchasing several times. Are those of you with multiple charges only having that issue when doing the date/time trick?
Same problem - just checked and I have "temporary authorization" charges for both times I tried this morning.
Same problem here. Got one 100 page book to upload, said it didn't finalize but I got the email confirmation so assuming it went through. But trying to upload another book and no luck for hours...tried the trick above but no change, software updates complete, reboot, etc. Hoping it really is temporary.
