I bought a Mac Mini recently (Intel Dual Core 1.66) and am having the "double letter" problem occur approximately once per couple of sentences typed, which has gotten really annoying. I bought the standard Mac keyboard with the Mac Mini. Speed of typing doesn't seem to matter, since typing "very slowly and carefully" does not keep the problem from occurring. The problem happens with different letters and is not limited to one specific letter.
This is the only "glitch" I've encountered.
When having the RAM in the Mac Mini upped from 512MB to 2GB, I took that keyboard in (to Mac Resource here in Huntsville, AL, where I bought the machine) and told them what it was doing. They hooked it to a Mac Mini on display and when I typed the first sentence "Now is the time for all good men...", I got a double "f". The person working there typed a similar sentence multiple times and never got the problem. I then tried typing "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." (since it uses every letter) 10 times and never got it to happen. Of course, there may be a difference in typing standing and typing while sitting if sensitivity to a certain style is an issue.
The guy in Mac Resource recommended I do a "repair disc permissions" since it sounded like a software issue. I did, and that did not help. When I type English text or variable names in C++ programs, the double stuff happens often, which really slows me down.
All I can do now is either get the keyboard replaced under warranty, but from what I've read, people who get replacements still have the problem, or buy a different keyboard to use with the machine.
I am interested to see if a definite resolution appears for this problem.
The "double letter" problem never appears on my Macbook with its built-in keyboard. I'll have to try using the suspicious keyboard with other machines to see if the problem follows it.
