I use pages09, keynote09. and due to my work nature I have to write articles and prepare presentations, so I need to add alfa, beta, gamma symbols frequently, thankfully can anyone show me how to add such letters, thanks in advance

I don't think that will activate the Greek keyboard layout. For that you have to check the box labeled Greek in the Input Sources tab.
