New Aluminum Keyboard up arrow key sends F6 also

I replaced a 1 year old aluminum keyboard with a new one, with the mission control icon, instead of dashboard, over a belkin flip kvm (F1DG102U) and the up arrow key is sending F6. The older keyboard (which, somehow, got smashed by a table) doesn't display this behavior, and still works fine, despite numerous broken keys (they all work fine, but, some are hanging off).

I've got it replaced once already, plugged on a mac mini and it worked fine. After I plugged it to the kvm, up arrow sends up+F6. No matter what I do, even without the kvm, up arrow sends up+F6.

Nothing has changed in the OS, prior to changing keyboards. There's nothing plugged anywhere, except for the monitor (hdmi), itself and a magic trackpad. I've tested on a pc (with windows and gentoo linux), and both report up + F6 when I press the up arrow. Over windows and linux, the numeric pad works fine (both as arrow and 8, numlock on/off).

What could have caused this? and, is there a fix??

thanks in advance.

This issue has been driving me crazy -- it appeared in Windows 7 (bootcamp on my iMac). I changed the keyboard in the language/region settings, disabled sticky keys a thousand times . . . It wasn't until I downloaded Sharp Keys that I was able to tell exactly what the behavior was - that the up arrow was sending F6. Through Sharp Keys, I've reassigned F6 to be an up arrow (this disables F6, but oh well). Seems to be working well enough for now.

What a bizarre problem. Interesting to see that so many other people have experienced the exact same thing.

Hey everyone.

Its 2016 and this problem still persists. I used to use the Apple Aluminium keyboard on Windows and there I managed to work around it by using a software hack (ScanKey) to disable the F6 completely (and remapped it to F13). Now, however, I'm back to using a Mac and just recently this BS started happening again.. my keyboard is brand new, two weeks old. I accidentally discovered that if I toggle the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" in Settings / Keyboard, the up key/F6 anomaly stops happening.. it does reoccur in time, unfortunately, but sometimes this "fix" will last for days, even weeks.. then simply toggle it again. Not a permanent fix, but much better than rebooting and hoping it will go away 😀

Actually,

scratch the above "fix".. it stopped working as soon as I posted it, LOL. I did some digging and it turns out there's a nice utility for OSX called "Karabiner".. I've used it to successfully filter out the annoying F6 from Up-Key presses (and remapped the F16 to stand-in as F6).. here's the private.xml for Karabiner to accomplish it:

<item>

<name>Disable F6</name>

<identifier>private.disable_f6</identifier>

<autogen>__KeyToKey__ KeyCode::F6, KeyCode::VK_NONE</autogen>

<autogen>__KeyToKey__ KeyCode::F16, KeyCode::F6</autogen>

</item>
