The GPS in an iPhone is an "Assisted" GPS meaning that it will use known locations of WiFi transmitters to locate the phone if the phone happens to be receiving a WiFi signal that it "knows" the location of. Notice that I did not say that the WiFi transmitter has to be yours. Your phone COULD be picking up a WiFi station that has been moved from it's "known" location. Try turning off WiFi and see if that might solve the problem.

Here's an explaination of "Assisted GPS". https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3026319

Same issue here. iPhone 4S. I am livinig in Austria, Central Europe. My iPhone is located at Shanghai, but I'm sure I'm at home in Austria. The automatic timezone adjustment told my daily timer to awake me around midnignt to get up and go to work. That's realy not nice.

The problem occured on 15th of december 2011 for the very first time. I contacted the local Apple Support two times, but I got no solution. I restarted my iPhone, I reset the network settings. But no solution.

So if here is somebode from Apple reading this thread - PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM
