iPhone 4S Set Automatic Time and Location Problem

iPhone 4S Set Automatic Time and Location Problem

Hi all,

I just checked my phone for the time and it said 21.20!! So I went into settings and the "Set Automatic Time" is on and my time zone is Baghdad!!! I live in the UK.

If I turn off Automatic time and put London the time is fine. So I thought I'd check the Maps App and it still has me in Baghdad for my location.

What is going on??

Ive reset the phone using the Home and top button but its still the same. i've also tried syncing it iTunes but still no change.

Any ideas?? Any help will be grateful, thank you.

I don't notice this problem until Dec 14... Which I see is when this thread started. I updated to a new version of iTunes that day and my phone synced to that.. Could there be a connection there, I wonder.

Anyway, this morning my phone tells me I'm in Bonny Scotland, which is where I also believe I am... :-)

As a wee by the by.... I notice Siri has started to also know that the time in Scotland is the same as the time in England... When I first got my 4S about a month ago I asked Siri what the time was and he said, "I'm sorry, I don't know what the time is in Scotland..." probably no connection at all, but I do wonder if the Beta Siri is part of the issue..

Finally there is much posted elsewhere on the Internet about battery drain being caused by issues with the 'setting time zone' setting. This setting was new to me ( settings>location services>system services) I see it seems to be at work all the time, when it really only needs to do anything when I move to another time zone... This is apparently a known bug and the cause of immense battery drain for many... Locations problems too, I wonder?

Anyway... It's all speculation on my part and more of an energy drain than just looking at my wristwatch and relying on my innate skill with regard to knowing where I am currently located ! :-) I do notice in the above 'system services' however that there has been a compass calibration since my departure from Belarus (virtually, that is) and my waking up this morning in the Highlands...

I think I'll stop speculating and have another cup of tea.....

Same problem here as well. Started on the 14th for me to. My iPhone 4S has been fine for the last 6 weeks then 2 days ago it changed my time zone to Denmark as well as my maps and local weather. A short time later it changed everything to the east coast of Italy.

I have done all the different resets and restores but ultimately they have had no effect.

One strange thing I have noticed is that my phone goes back to normal ie UK when i am in a 3G area and only jet sets across Europe when I am on GPRS or wi-fi...can anyone else confirm this is the same with them?

I am with Tesco carrier (o2 network). I have been speaking with apple about the issue and they believe it may have something to do with the new siri server but are yet to officially confirm or deny this until their engineers have looked into it further.

They did ask me to set the phone up after a full reset with siri de-activated from the set up procedure. I did this and the result was that my fine was unable to find any location for me on maps or weather and continued displaying copenhagen (Denmark) as my automatic time zone.

I think it is definitely problems at apples end rather than with the phone.
