can't set up iCloud mail aliases

I've been trying all day to set up alias emails under my iCloud account, but keep getting an error message "... can't be saved due to server error". This has been going on all day with several attempts using both a windows computer at work and an iMac at home. Anyone else getting this problem/error message?

A number of people have complained of this. There is no free iCloud Support unless you happen to have currrent AppleCare. You could try MobileMe Support - a few people have been able to obtain help from them but I don't know whether they will help with this issue. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ww/ and select your country. In the next window click on a category to expand it, then on a subject to get a link to 'live chat'.

I've had this problem for at least 2 months. I also have applecare. They moved it up the chain and the senior advisor-1 wanted access to my email account to look into it. I was hesitant but figured I'd do it for a day or two. After 4 days or so I emailed back and forth with advisor in charge asking how long they would need access because I wasn't comfortable giving them indefinite access. He said he had no idea and it would take as long as they needed. I found that unacceptable and changed my password so they couldn't get into the account anymore.

Almost three weeks later the same advisor emailed me again asking if I had changed my password because they couldn't get into my email account. So it took them 3 weeks to even begin to look into the problem??

I called another senior advisor-2 and told him my original alias problem, and the issue I had with their solution to it (unlimited access). He said that didn't sound right and that he'd look into it. He called back and told me that HIS email account was having the exact same problem and that another senior advisor would contact me. He (sr.advisor-3) did and requested access to my email account AGAIN. I called the advisor-2 who was having the same problem that I was and asked him why they couldn't experiment with his email account instead of mine. His (sr.advisor-2) reply was as lame as the proposed solution, he said because I'm the one who put the help ticket in for it. Seriously? Once again I denied them access to it.

So as of right now I still can't create any email aliases. I've only got one and it says I have 2 of 3 available. My guess is they have no idea how to fix it and are ignoring this issue.

My solution: create another gmail address. Since Apple insists that we use an outside email address for our Apple ID I have a gmail account anyway. Gmail doesn't seem to care how many email address I want so I'm sticking with them.

Has anyone found a resolution to this yet?

Yes I have.

After my issue was escalated to a senior advisor, they looked into it and highlighted the following:

"After some additional research, we are seeing that your account has been cross-verified to another Apple ID which is causing the Alias issue.

To correct this, please navigate to appleid.apple.com in your browser. Next sign in with <your Apple ID you use for iTunes e.g. test@hotmail.com> and remove your <me.com email address> and Save. After that sign out at appleid.apple.com and then sign back in with <me.com email address> and remove the <iTunes email addres, e.g. test@hotmail.com> then Save.

Once you've saved both changes, please try adding an email alias again and let us know if there is still an issue."

I tried the above steps and it worked. I was able to successfully create an email alias.

It would be worth trying this, because it may well be the same issue.

Good luck!

Didn't work see below:

To correct this, please navigate to appleid.apple.com in your browser. Next sign in with <your Apple ID you use for iTunes e.g. test@hotmail.com>

DID THIS

and remove your <me.com email address> and Save.

DID THIS, AND I HAD 2 ME.COM ADDRESSES THERE (1 ALIAS) SO I DELETED BOTH

After that sign out at appleid.apple.com and then sign back in with <me.com email address>

THIS IS WHERE THE BREAK DOWN OCCURED: I COULDN'T SIGN IN WITH MY ME.COM EMAIL ADDRESS

and remove the <iTunes email addres, e.g.test@hotmail.com> then Save.

couldn't find any answers on interwebs & called apple support. nobody at support knew answer. they transfered me to "mobile me transition team". nobody there knew solution so they said they'd contact "engineering" & made an appointment to call me back in a week. amazingly not only did they call me back when they said they would but they had a solution to being unable to create an alias on icloud. the problem was that my apple id & my primary email address did not match (i was using another alias as my primary email id). so i had to login to appleid.apple.com to "manage your account" and make apple id & primary email same address. then went back to icloud mail preferences and added a new alias. worked instantly.

they also told me that on mobile me you were allowed 5 aliases & only 3 on icloud. so if you want to add a new alias, you have to delete 3 of your old ones. leaving you with 2 & thus space for 1 new one.

good luck everybody

I'm having the same issue with not being able to create aliases, but I've read through and tried all the suggestions in the post. One thing that is different for me is I seem to have two different apple IDs; one of the IDs is my mobile me account and the other is my primary email account. When I log in under each ID, both accounts show the same exact information - that my apple ID is my primary email address. I can also log into iCloud using either ID, and they show the same information for my contacts, calendar, photos, etc. I just got an iPhone yesterday, and I didn't even use iCloud until then, so there is no way that I set up both accounts and didn't remember. In fact, I had to migrate my contacts and calendar from Google, so I know both IDs have no information stored in them until then.

Much of this thread is out of date. There is currently a widespread inability to create aliases for a different reason. @icloud.com addresses are being rolled out over an unspecified period: you will get one without having to do anything, and it will be additional to your @me.com address. You will get a notification email when your account is updated. You will notice that the alias creation pane shows @icloud.com as the suffix - apparently new @me.com addresses cannot be created and I imagine you will have to wait until your account is upgraded before you can create aliases.
