Is there a way to scan my drives and automatically import all music

It does not just add new music it copies the entire folder again as Wiclee has advised.

My recommendation is to keep your NEW music in a NEW file and add that folder by its self. Do not add folders that have already been scanned once. Again.

If you have already added your new music to the main folder and added it again you will have the entire file duplicated. You'll wish you were dead.

There is no remove ALL duplicates feature. There is only show duplicates.

If you did this you will have a mixed bag of crap because some songs will be actual copies and some will be cross referenced from other albums that feature the same song. You will have to analyze every song that should be deleted and is not contained in more than one ablum - then delete ALL the copies

If you have 8,000 dupes (or more depending on your collection size) you will be removing dupes until the dawn of time.

Jax, Yes you can.

On your iTunes menu, FILE, Add Folder to library, just point to your folder and click SELECT FOLDER button.

If you want to Scan the whole hard drive, just point at C:\ instead.

I don't understand why this is so difficult to accomplish. I have specified a folder that contains all of my music, and I frequently add new music to that folder. So why is there not a way to say "Scan my folder for new music"? This seems like a simple request. The only solution I've seen is to delete all of the tracks from the library and then reimport everything.

No, it will not add files you have already added to iTunes.

First I recommend going to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ and make a shortcut on the desktop of the Automatically add to iTunes folder.

Then search your HD for music files & drag them to this shortcut.

This will add them to iTunes and move them to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.

File > Add to library in iTunes simply makes a copy of the file in the /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.

Now you have at least two of every file.

You would have duplicate files because (as I previously wrote), when you File > Add to library, iTunes copiesthe files into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media folder.

The original file is still wherever it was.

I, too, can't get iTunes to scan my PC for media. But regarding your suggestion: I know of no File menu or any Windows-style menu, in iTunes. Can you help with that? I've tried right-clicking to bring up something but nothing appears. That's first. Second, someone suggested making copies of their music files and adding them to an iTunes folder. The problem for me, anyway, is that I have 10 GB of music files on my computer. Copying them all would choke my poor, bedraggled laptop. I'm open to any and all suggestions, and a great thanks to anyone who provides them.

iTunes has no such feature to scan the hard drive for media.

The folder has already been added, but I have added new music files to that folder, but I can't find a way to make it "re scan" and add the missing files.

Just ADD the same folder to library again, it will scan and add only the new music into your library. I have been doing that all the time.
