Images in Numbers Do Not Export to Excel

Why is it that a simple feature such as being able to export a numbers document (with images) to excel is not supported by Numbers? This is a critical feature!

We need this.

If I am just a novice and there is a way, please advice.

Hi Tina,

Here's the warning message you should have seen on exporting the file as an Excel file:

User uploaded file

There are some features of Excel that are not supported in Numbers.

You'll see warnings about those features when you IMPORT an Excel file into Numbers.

There are some features of Numbers that are not supported in MS Excel.

You'll see warnings about those features when you EXPORT a Numbers document to an Excel format file.

The file I EXPORTED contained two Footer rows. Footer rows are not supported in Excel, hence the warning.

"Header" or "Footer" is a format applied to a cell. Excel does not understand that format, so it was stripped from the cells on export. The content of the cells wasn't changed, but in Excel, they will not behave as Header or Footer cells, which co0uld affect some formulas.

The file I exported also contained a cell in which there was an image. Images in cells in a Numbers table are inserted as an Image fill. Image fills are not supported in MS Excel, hence the warning.

Image fill is also a Format applied to a cell. Excel does not understand this format, so it was striped from the cell on export. The content of the cell wasn't changed, but with respect to content, the cell was empty in Numbers and will be empty in Excel.

Regards,

Barry

I just tried this. I have multiple images and they are all less than 100Kb. Right click on the cell with image does not give me the Reduce Image size option.

I tried an even smaller image size <20Kb and it still did not work...

I called Apple support and they say that this feature is not supported. I just can't belive it.

How else would anyone using a Mac and had any database management duties use this product...assuming the databses like I have contain images

Numbers is not the right tool for managing a database. It is definitley a consumer level program and is not intended to take the place of mysql, or sql, or Excel. Numbers also underwhelms when the volumne of cells increases.

Sorry I don't have another solution. The image I have in my document was a high resolution jpg and I reduced the size by 9.5Meg.
