Duplex printing on Brother broken update 2.8?

Greetings. I installed Brother Printer Software Update 2.8 the other day, and now printing duplex on my Brother HL-5250DN doesn't work. When printing a multi-page document, I can see the printer acting as if it was printing duplex (by pulling the sheet it just printed back), but nothing appears on the second side. The full document is printed, however; all text is there, just on twice as many sheets as should be needed, with nothing on the second sides of the paper.

Having this fixed soon would save trees. :-)

It seems like update 2.8,1 fixes things. After applying the update I tried the following things on my HL-5250DN:

1. Set the duplex setting on the printer to "on" and selected None for two-sided printing in the layout section of the print dialog.

This printed duplex (expected behavior).

2. Set the duplex setting on the printer to "off" and selected None for two-sided printing in the layout section of the print dialog.

This did not duplex (expected behavior).

3. Set the duplex setting on the printer to "off" and selected "Long Edge Binding" for two-sided printing in the layout section of the print dialog.

This did duplex (expected behavior).

So the question is, how do I set duplex printing to be the default behavior without just turning it on at the printer (because the driver cannot override that)?

I just installed the new Brother 2.8.1 driver update, printed two pages and duplex works on my HL-5370DW. The new update seems to have also fixed a problem where my printer would not feed paper from the manual tray unless I set paper feed specifically to "manual tray". After the 2.8.1 update, it fed from the manual tray on "Auto Select", as it should.

I own a Brother HL-2140 Laser printer as well as a Canon Pixma MP160 inkjet and a Canon Pixma MP560 inkjet at home. I just recently installed the Brother 2.8.1 driver update and for some reason the "two page printing" option is still disabled, not only for the Brother, but also for both Canon printers.

I even tried installing the printer drivers directly from Brother and Canon but there's still no change. This is unbelievably frustrating.

Given that this problem affects the Canon printers as well as the Brother and still happens when you download drivers directly from the printer company websites, I don't see how it could have anything to do with the Brother printer update.

ASilva156, the Brother Printer Update that broke our duplexing didn't "disable" the "two page printing" option on our Brother printers. You could still select it, but it just didn't happen. Further, I don't see how the Brother Update could affect the Canon.

This makes me think that perhaps you need to go to each of your printers preferences and be certain that the duplexing options are shown as added on to your printers. Also, you could try deleting the printers and adding them again ...in fact, that might be the best option. A restart after adding/deleting printers is a good move.
