i had that same problem until i enabled my Windows Module Installer (it was previously disabled by myself). to start that service, you just need to go to services.msc and look for windows module installer.

Thanks for the reply, I already tried Installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update before attempting to reinstall iTunes may help.

It is also happening in windows 10

I had to go back to windows 8.1 to get itunes to work on one pc, Microsoft says they will force updates to windows 10 my fear is that

then i wont be able to use itunes again

i have an older version of itunes working in linux, and i am so upset with Microsoft and Apple i am trying to move away from them,

but itunes in linux isnt the best

i hope your answer helps someone else but i think in general windows 10 is messing up all the c++ and vcredit redistributable's in fact microsoft confirmed windows 10 is moving away from older versions of the redistributables they no longer need.

I had the same issue with Windows 10 build 11082. The link above to the MFC update resolved the issue. Do not try and search for the redistributable on the Microsoft site as the original wont install and returns the same error. Use the link provided by turingtest2, download and install as administrator, then do the same for the 64 bit edition of iTunes.

The real issue here is that apple still use legacy C++ libraries, which is simply lazy. Microsoft are removing the backward compatibility for obvious reasons (its buggy, full of security holes and dates back to the first star wars movies) so apple need to get their act together.

I also note that this forum fails dismally in MS Edge - had to revert to IE to post this - again Edge is standards compliant - Apple site isn't... Apple have enough of our money to sort this so lets see next version of iTunes being slightly more revolutionary than relying on the 2005 C++ libraries please.
