How do I disable the single and double quote accent nonsense

I use a new Mac Book Pro (Lion). I also use an external Dell keyboard. Whenver I type double quotes or single quotes and then immediatly type a letter the input that is made is that letter but with an accent. If I dont want the accent I have to hit the spacebar after the quote then the desired letter. While I press the single or double quote I get a small underline underneath it (notifying me that it wants to do an accent like I mentioned). How can I disable that entirely? I never nor will I ever use accents and I need my OS to keep up with my typing vs. slowing me down.
