Audio track keeps getting deleted

Very strange behaviour that I can't figure out. I am editing a music video, so I have one music track. I lay that on the timeline and then I want to add picture. The problem is, after I add video and then trim it by cutting and deleting a bit, the entire music track gets deleted too. Doesn't matter where the picture is on the timeline. There are clips before it, so why is the music track being deleted? Is there a way to lock the music track so that I can mess with the picture without it disappearing for no reason that I can figure out? Here is a screen grab of what I have so far. If I delete the highlighted clip, the whole audio track above gets deleted too.

Oh my gosh, I get it now! My problem is that there is a new language with FCPX. The clip is a storyline? I didn't get what that means. It's a clip with transitions on it, but now it's called a storyline. "Select the shelf" turns out to mean selecting the bar above the clip so that it selects the clip and transitions. Tony's pictures nailed it, but Tom was right on with what needed to be done, just didn't get the language.

Thanks to both of you for your patience in answering this. I really appreciate it.

Glad we could help.

For your own reference keep this in mind, a new project always begins with 1x primary storyline. To this you can connect other video clips, titles, audio & graphics. Once you place a dissolve on a clip, this then becomes a connected secondary storyline. You can also choose to add connected clips to a secondary storyline, but explaining why would make this one lengthy post.

A lot of matured editors are finding it hard to get their head around FCPX, but I think once you start using it the way Apple intended, it will cut time of your editing process. Having said that, there are a lot of things I disagree with, but I'm trying my best to stick with it, at least till Apple reveal what the next major update will include.

Shouldn't be too much longer now ;-)

Yeah, it does take some getting used to, but mostly I do find it really fast and easy to use. Much easier than FCP 7 in terms of keeping things in sync and working quickly. I sometimes found myself using Imovie for quick home movies and wondering why some of the features were not in FCP, so in that way, FCPX is great and makes Imovie completely uncessary, whereas it did fill a gap before.

Thanks again for your help.
