iPhone 4S Sim Card Not Valid [Factory Unlocked]

I bought two iPhone 4S from UK, both actory unlocked, and shipped them to my family in Egypt. One activated with an Egyptian SIM and the other refuses to activate on any sim, all of the sims work on other iphones. How can I get the phone activated? I am sure it is factory unlocked and the model nummber is MD235B/A if you want to check!

OH dear here we go ...again

Sorry to put you out so much. My 4S is new and my first iPhone. I bought it unlocked in the US, but Apple Mexico has no trouble working with me on an issue I had with the local carrier that I am using. That sounds like a world-wide warranty situation to me.

My sister, the lawyer in our firm, and I have read the warranty link that you provided. We find nothing in the pdf to suggest that the Apple Warranty is not world wide. There is the clause that Apple may restrict the warranty to country of purchase. May being the operative word. In my experience, Apple has honored the warranty world-wide for many years, except in unusual circumstances, such as the Verizon specific iPhone and iPad. Those are warranted in the US only because the parts for them are not supplied by Apple in its supply chain world-wide. My personal experience with many Apple products, including my new 4S, is that Apple honors its warranty world-wide.

Unless you have a direct experiene with Apple warranties not honored world-wide or can point us to specific language from Apple that the warranty is only honored in the nation of purchase, then I believe that your opinion is inacurate and perhaps best not published as factually true.

Well suit yourself

I would have expected ,with your impressive array of points to have conducted a search of the forum for anechdotal evidence and it is legion with users buying in one country mainly US and returning to their home country and being refused service

You are correct Apple use the term MAY and I imagine that gives them the required wriggle room for any situation

For your info another individual kept banging on about the warranty ,popping up saying it was international

In the end the big knowledgeable hitters around here got him banned

If you feel that stronly post the question here as a new post and you will get your answer 🙂

oh and do quote your non acceptance of the Apple warranty Ts & Cs I quoted above

My personal experience directly with Apple is what tells me that the warranty is honored world-wide, except in specific cases.

I was not aware that before questioning your statement and requesting a link that I was supposed to do extensive research on the matter, regardless of my having reached Level Six. I am unaware of that in the Terms of Use.

I seriously doubt that the Hosts have banned anyone merely for stating that the Apple warranty is honored world-wide. I often continually repeat information when others post inaccurate comments, I have not been banned.

There are a number of logical falacies in your last comment, too many to point out in a short post, so I shall state that I think that you are incorrect regarding the Apple Warranty and appear to suffer from not-enough-dots syndrome.

I think that this clause from the Apple Care + warranty, which is new for the iPhone 4S, shows that Apple intends to provide world-wide coverage whenever possible.

6.2 Apple reserves the right to change the method by which Apple may provide repair or replacement service to you, and your Covered Equipment’s eligibility to receive a particular method of service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability and response times may vary according to country. You may be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the Covered Equipment cannot be serviced in the country it is in. If you seek service in a country that is not the country of purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges. For international service, Apple may repair or exchange products and parts with comparable products and partsthat comply with local standards.

They told me t restore it with iTunes but it's still not working. Is that what they did to your phone? (Maybe I can call and tell them something specific that worked!). Thank you!

Sorry, I have just noticed your message.

With my case there was following problem. Device I bought in London Apple store supposed to be factory unlocked, but in fact it wasn't. It was locked to the O2.

So they sold locked iphone to me by mistake - messed up locked and unlocked devices at the store. I found it out calling to the Apple Support, then I sent to the Advisor my receipt from the store as a proof of the purchase for the full price (there is a serial number on the receipt) and they unlocked it on the server immediately. Very fast and very professional service - I even was disconnected twice and they called me back finding my contacts in my profile in the database.

This is it.
