Keywords still available in database after removing

Hello,

When I import photos with a keyword that need to be removed, I remove them with Shift+Enter from the photos and delete the keywor from the keyword list using the keyword HUD display. When I restart the keyword is still gone, but when I have used the 'Repair Database' option the keyword is in the keyword list again. It seems that the delete is not permanent and that is undesirable for me.

Is there an option to permanently delete keyword or is it a bug?

When I export masters all old keywords which I deleted earlier in Aperture are included with the master photo's.

Keywords are part of the IPICT data, and normally Aperture does not add them to the masters. Did you force Aperture to write IPICT to the masters? That will happen, when you batch change some cersions and check "apply to masters", or when you use the menu entry "Metadata -> Write IPICT to masters". If you did any of that previously, then the masters will reflect the state of your keywords at the time you performed that operation. The IPICT data in master image files will not be synched with IPICT changes to the versions.

How did you export your masters?

  • If you choose to "include IPICT" when exporting, then Aperture should take only the IPICT from the version you are exporting.
  • If you do not "include IPICT" on export, then you should see the IPICT added to the master file, and that may be inconsistent with the current IPICT of the exported version .

So what was the option that you used?

Hi leonieDF,

I first forced to write the metadata to the master by "Metadata -> Write IPICT to masters". Then I exported the masters with the option "include IPICT". This gives me some keywords what I did not see in the keyword HUD.

I found then that in de fullname fields of the info dialog of Faces, I used the same name as the keywords that I removed. I cleared those fullname fields and did the export again. This export was succesful with the keyword I need in the export. It seems that the fullname fields are exported as keyword, or interpreted as keywords by other photo management software.

As a workaround I use the tip writen above by Frank Caggiano to delete the keywords.plist.

I hope the Aperture developers will fix this issue soon :-) Haha, but Aperture 4 has precedence over this issue for me. I bet on february 😁
