Sometimes when I have a Safari window open (in Mac OSX v. 10.7 Lion) the window will suddenly shift and slide to the right and disappear.
It is very annoying because whatever I am working on or looking at...disappears. I cannot find it. What is this effect called and how do I stop it?
If you're using a trackpad this is a two-finger swipe for going backwards and forwards between pages. I think the magic mouse has a similar function.
You can adjust the settings in
> System Preference > Trackpad
or
> System Preference > Mouse
depending on which you use.
Another possibility: Do you have multiple desktops enabled?
CT is, I think, referring to the 3 or 4-finger (depending on what options are set) trackpad swipe which will switch you to a new desktop (if you've first added one using Mission Control) or to the Dashboard if your desktop disappears to the right. However, that would happen in any program, not just Safari.
If you're experiencing this behaviour and don't like it, you can also turn it off in the same Preferences settings I mentioned above.
This is exactly the simple answer I was looking for. The inadvertant and annoying sliding window is a mouse function which can be disabled. Thank you.
