INCOMING FORWARDED CALL ALERT IN IPHONE 4S

This feature was available on my iPhone 3G running iOS 3.x. Since I switched to my iPhone 4S running iOS 5 (and new micro sim card of the same carrier) this alert no longer appears when I receive a forwarded call. According to my carrier I should contact the phone manufacturer, i.c. Apple. :S

Apple is far more likely to pay attention to the feedback left through the proper link that they are to have engineers reading this forum for suggestions.

It is related to the carrier. My point was, regardless of phone, my carrier does not offer such a feature. It is not as universal or "basic" as you presume.

I never answer any call from any number I do not know, period. So whether it was forwarded or not really never matters to me. Been doing that ever since caller ID first became available. If they are legit, they will leave a message. If not, the number immediately goes into contacts with an silent ringtone assigned so I'm never bothered by them again.

I also use Google Voice as my primary phone number(s), and use its SPAM filtering to block numbers from spammers or anyone who calles me and does not leave a message.

I've never had the "call forwarded" alert feature on over a dozen makes and models of cell phones and 6 carriers in the past 1.5+ decades, so, to me, it is a non-issue. if it is of value to you, then submit feedback to apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I've never heard of such a feature on any phone. That would be something the carrier would have to provide. Contact whoever provides your cellular service.

The feature is not carrier based.

The forwarded call alert is default in samsung galaxy s2 phone and all nokia handsets. Even Nokia Lumia phones also has default feature and the alert notification is shown on the screen when a forwarded call is received on the phone.

Is there any application for iphone which is usefull to get an alert when a forwarded call is received?

For reference : There is an application for android devices. The name of the application is : "Forwarded Call Alert" which is easily available in android market.

I know that my carrier's network (AT&T's GSM network) does show an alert when I make a call to a number that is in turn forwarding to another number. But, according to AT&T, that is a GSM network feature, alerting you that your call has been successfully forwarded to the final number in the calling path.

I have never had an iPhone (3G, 3Gs, now 4) that has alerted me when I am receiving a call from a forwarded number. Many of my family and friends, like me, use Google voice for their phone numbers, and a call made using google voice is inherently a forwarded call (since it passes through Google's server/switch to make the final connection) and those have never shown up as anything but perfectly normal incoming calls on any of my iPhones.

I know on Android phones, the kind of alert you are asking about (i.e. when receiving a call from a forwarded number, sometimes called a diverted call alert) is acheived through 3rd party apps or modifications to the base Android installation by the phone's manufacturer.

I haven't used forwarding from one phone to another in quite some time, but I do seem to recall that when I did so (from my business phone to my personal original iPhone back in 2007) When the call rang on the iPhone, it displayed "Forwarded Call" or something to that effect on the iPhone IF the caller was not in my address book. I did not get the 'forwarded call' notification if the number was in my address book. The display was probably being over-ridden by the name display of the phone.

Try placing a call from a number not in your contacts and see if it makes a difference.

It is a phone based feature, but in all the phones you mentioned previously it is only there because the ROM on those phones was modified by the manufacturer or carrier to include the aftermarket application. The Android OS itself does not provide the feature, but 3rd party apps, which can be bundled into the Android ROM do provide it.

Even if an Android phone does not come with it, you can add the app ("Forwarded Call Alert" by Georg Lukas) but it may not work on some phones if the default ROM has certain switches/features disabled (READ_PHONE_STATE and READ_PHONE_LOGS switches). For example, it reportedly does not work on the original HTC Desire, but does work on the HTC Desire HD

iOS on the iPhone does not provide the feature, and since no 3rd party app can access the basic phone features of the iPhone, I don't see how a developer could write an app to do it.

At this time, I'm occasionally using call diversions from my personal number to company number
which I'm carrying with me. As long as those
forwarded calls are expensive (and I'm billed for those), it's way important
for me to know if it is a direct call or a forwarded one.

Nokia even basic handsets shows a small arrow sign while a forwarded call is in
progress. My colleague choose sumsung galaxy s2 and did not install any apps it show forwarded calls. I should find solution to my problem or switch to galaxy S2. I personaly believe showing forwarded calls is not so hard

Just to chime in, I am also wondering about this issue and can vouche for the fact that the Motorola Razr 2 and even the Motorola Razr V3i both had an icon that showed when a forwarded call was coming in, however having said that, I am on Rogers (my carrier) in Canada, so I cannot say whether it was a phone or carrier feature. As well, both those phone also had the ability to handle two lines on one SIM card (carrier specific feature, but the phone needs to be able to be compatible with the feature) that iphone is currently not capable of and a LARGE number of Android phones aren't as well, even though basic handsets are compatible with this feature. And Every single time someone suggested a phone that was compatible with dual lines on a single SIM card, going to the carrier store and using that phone with my dual line SIM invariably only had one active line that could not be changed, meaning that people just presumed this phone or that could do dual lines without ever actually trying it. But anyway, the point is that there are numerous features on even basic phones that a lot of smartphones (not just apple) no longer support because they weren't popular features OR in the case of dual lines, many people didn't even know they existed (and have done so for years and years now)

I dunno because my mom had the v3 as well and she didn't have the feature just like you but she and I were both on Rogers, I had the v3i (v3t? I can't remember, it was the upgraded version of the v3, on Rogers it came in blue but I think in the states there were more colors, so whichever one of those were blue that's the version I had)

I have tested this in Finland. Same operators, 2 sim cards and so on...

Other phones works fine but iPhone not....

Regardless of the carriers' setting, most of- if not all- cellphones since dump phone ages have had a indicator of some sort to differentiate forwarded calls. Some are during ringing, some are in the call log.

iPhone have nothing.
