What is the purpose of iCloud?
Is iCloud just a way of sychronizing content across various devices or is it also a cloud back up service? If it is not a cloud back up service, why not? It seems silly that I would pay Apple to store and stream my content in the cloud and then also have to pay some other company to do a complete back up into the cloud.
Yesterday, an Apple support person told me in no uncertain terms that iCloud is not a cloud back up service and that is not for storing data in the cloud. He emphasized that it's only purpose was the cross synchronization across platforms. However, I find this difficult to believe given all the hype. Surely, Apple is trying to take over the online back up market.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
