Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

So where are all the new promised fixes and features?

Did Randy quit or get fired? No one has seen him around lately.

So Apple, where are all these promised fixes and enhancements to FCP X to bring it back to the same functionality of FCP 7??

I really would like to know who did the "marketing research" before developing FCP X ... I think we all know that no one really did any.

Crickets?

Look Apple, if you're going to kill a product ... just kill it, nobody wants to pay $299 for iMovie Pro, not when there are so many other options on the market for less that do more. Did removing FCS 3 from the market help FCP X sales?? Not from sales data I'm looking at.

Ask Intel why they need the fastest CPU ... Ask nVidia/ATi why they need the fastest graphics card ... Ask ... you get the point ... and if you don't, let me spelll it out for you. "The high end niche market (read low sales numbers) DRIVES the rest of your market" Marketing 101 -- think you need some executives with a tad more in the IQ department.

Question stands, where are the promised fixes and new features?

Gamers, mostly. The high-end professional graphics market is puny to insignificant in comparison, though obviously there are companies who make a nice living catering to that speciality market. Intel and niVidia/ATi, however, do not; they, like Apple, are in the mass-sales business.

nobody wants to pay $299 for iMovie Pro,

Lots of people paid that for Final Cut Express. Perhaps Apple feels that the "prosumer" market, with the potential to sell in the tens of thousands of units, is more lucrative than the professional market where they probably sell a few hundreds or thousands of units.

Anyway, we're all fellow users here and so we'll all know about a major update when Apple releases it, though of course the 10.0.1 release did add some new features.

The examples are long and numerous of companies that failed by ignoring that simple marketing rule.

Look at AMD, times/profits were great when they had the performance lead on Intel for a year or so ... AMD's high end processor wasn't their best seller, not even close, yet it's existance ensured a prosperity while their low volume product remained at the top of the CPU performance chain. Now look at AMD, they fell behind in performance, all they can sell now are cheap processors and their profits and stock price has dropped significantly. You can take this example from numerous companies that have fallen into the same lack of understanding a market.

Not having a profession market to backup a product and a product line is a serious mistake.

FCP X is a product aimed at what market? The YouTube poster? 98% of the YouTube video's can be edited (if at all) by free products, no need for $299 FCP X. FCP X is missing so much that the Professional and even hobbiest don't want it. So what market is FCP X aimed at? Even pulling FCS 3 hasn't improved FCP X sales.

But still, where are all the fixes for FCP X? And there was supposed to be minor upgrades that would at least allow folks to open FCP 7 projects, that never happened?

I think you folks are missing the point ... Intel's top tier processor is NOT their money maker, it's doesn't generate huge volume sales.

Just as AMD's top tier processor didn't have high volume sales ... it's the existance of "the best" that drove the sales numbers of their lesser/cheaper products.

Just as FCS 3 didn't generate huge volume sales. It's the existance of the high product that drives the mass sales of the lesser/cheaper products. That's basic marketing. It's for those that look to buy a Mac product and the sales guy shows them a MacPro with high end video editing as symbol of "we're serious and have the talent and hardware to meet demands of professionals" ... so the average consumer goes "wow, these guys have products for professionals it must be good quality if it meets their demands".

Ya get my point?

What does Apple have now, oh look at FCP X, professional hate it ... let me show you the MacPro ... oh wait we don't have any ... how about garage band for the iPhone ... isn't that cool!! And it's only $4.99!!! And if you call the 800 number within the next 10 minutes you can get it for $3.99 ... Apple, say hello to Walmart.

You really think that's going to be a good image for Apple? A good marketing decision?

I think the average consumer won't really know that some professionals hate FCPX, nor did they ever care that it was used in the professional world.

Also I believe Apple still sells the MacPro

Apple's pro market, the one they used to support more than they do now, developed both the hardware and software that spawned the low end market. The iPod, iPhone and iPad changed all that... focus is now on the low end market, there is more money to be made there, whether this will drive the high-end hardware/software remains to be seen. There's no doubt we entering a new era. I think it's ironc that Apple has become what was the target of their famous "1984 Television Ad".

I started with a Mac Plus, (remember the signatures molded on the inside of the case). I don;t think I've ever seen as bad a software release as FCPX. Come to think of it, the pro market helped develop the technologies that made the iPhone/iPod/iPad possible.

Tom,

Selling so well that Apple removed many of the negative reviews because it was averaged at 2 stars ... and look, it's now mysteriously 4 stars. I even have screen shots of some of the reviews that no longer exist because I know how Apple operate. Does those "sales" numbers include "returns" 😉

And yet Toyota produced a high end sports car called the LFA ... thank you for proving my marketing point.

Steve,

If you can find a store (Apple store or 3rd party reseller) that keeps even the basic low end MacPro in stock, please let me know. I haven't found a single store that does, special order item only with very long delays. Apple used to stock them, now they don't -- seem obvious to me that MacPro line is being flushed.

Very few reviews were removed. Mostly because they were offensive. The whole thing about Apple pulling reviews is a myth. The ratings have gone up because a lot more people are buying the app who don't have experience with other applications and are happy with what they're getting.

Returns are well under 1%.

Nobody bought a Corolla because Toyota produced the LFA, even if they knew they did. Performance cars are test beds and very poor as marketing tools for commercial products, as Toyota and Honda and Ford realized years ago when they withdrew from most competition. Corvettes don't sell Cruzes. I don't know whre you learned your Marketing 101, but it's not what's happening out there.

How so?

Because Apple was funded by the professional market for many years, Apple was known as the company that catered to professionals. Some of the technology that is used today was developed at that time.

ROFL ... oh good grief Tom, someone needs to paste an Apple sticker on your forehead. Are you seriously suggesting that Apple doesn't remove reviews and threads that are bad for their image/marketing??? Please please please, save the last ounce of integrity you might have. Could you be a little more generic with "offensive" ... hahaha

And Area 51 doesn't exist -- the US government told me so ... it must be true.

So you're saying Apple is the new Walmart? They don't need any professionals to help them? Well I can't really debate that, FCP X is about as Walmart as a video editor can be ... problem is, there are far less expensive video editors on the market that do more for less soooooo ... if this is the Market Apple want, then they'll need to do a lot better than FCP X and make it cost a lot less than $299.

Who knows what market FCP X is aimed at, it's a product of complete confusion ... has hints of high end support with Red but at the same time fails miserably in other areas. So how many of you walmart masses have a Red One camera?? A $25,000 camera ... yet FCP X supports it. Come on Tom, drop the flag waving for just a minute and look at the reality.

Dec 28, 2011 2:51 PM in response to Rob A.

The reality is Apple is selling a lot of this product and making a lot of money on it. The reality is it works for a lot of people. Doesn't work for you? Don't use it.

Apple pulled a bunch of reviews in the first week, and put most of them back. There were reviews I saw before they were pulled that called Randy an a-hole. They were pulled. The ratings went down to about two in the first month or so, and have been climbing back up ever since. That's the reality. You can believe whatever crap you want.

So where are all the new promised fixes and features?
